Seabird by the Seashore

What a treat, to be able to photograph a seagull at the edge of the sea! I'm from Illinois, a land of few lakes and no seashore (and I'm hundreds of miles away from Lake Michigan) so this trip to Virginia to visit my oldest son (and an extra bit of a drive to Virginia Beach just so I could see, feel and photograph the ocean) is a riot for me.
Fav. Fantastic focus and wonderful color and light.

Lovely, peaceful shot. I love the ocean. I'm not very close either so every time I get to go it's a real treat.

Oh what a lovely shot Denise, I love the layers of sand, water, and waves, and of course the seagull in perfect focus!

This is just beautiful, Denise. The focus is terrific as well as the dof - but the amazing color contrasts really catch my eye. Love the feeling of the sand and water. Fav

This is a beauty, I'm loving it! I love the texture on the sand, and the lapping waves in behind. The shot exudes tranquility. I hope you're having a lovely time with your son. We have both ours home for the weekend. Just the weekend, but boy am I going to make the most of it!

@loweygrace He was a very photogenic seagull, happy to stand still and let me shoot like crazy. It took walking up very close to him to get him to decide to relocate, and even then it was only a few feet away from me.

@alophoto Lucky for me, the waves kept doing their thing over and over, giving me lots of opportunities to catch them right where I wanted them in the photo. Ha!

@bill_fe Thanks Bill. I like that shallow DOF myself as well.

@cottiac Ahh, thanks for noticing the "framing" as well. :)

@ninaganci That was a kind and generous compliment you shared. Thanks! I'd happily enjoy more opportunities to shoot scenes at the seashore. It was nice to have something different to take pictures of, that's for sure.

@radiogirl Thanks Kathy, for noticing all the various details. Mr. Seagull is in good focus because he was a very cooperative subject and just stood still for the longest time. Silly bird.

@jamibann Thanks oodles, Issi. I was happy to have so many different elements to include in the picture, things very different from what I normally have to focus on. :) Bet your weekend with both your kids home was wonderful. Those are special times, having the family all back under the roof again.

@sangwann Thank you, Dione. It helped greatly that Mr. Seagull seemed stuck in that one place. A moving subject would've made capturing this picture a whole lot more challenging.

@darsphotos I'm so glad the bird stood still and the waves kept coming in, giving me lots of chances to take different photos until I got the one I wanted.

APPRECIATE ALL THE FAV's SHARED ON THIS PICTURE.

@lyndemc So many think it is point and shoot but some take a lot of time to capture. Your timing was great. I really love this one and people that know me know I love the beach/ocean. How nice that you got to take this side trip. I grew up in San Francisco and loved the beach. Now 100 miles away and each visit try to get back for at least some photos. There is something about how it makes one feel and draws you back again and again. I hope you get to go back.
