Glory Days

I've finally visited "Historic Route 66".

I live not too far from a portion of "Main Street of America', the "Mother Road", the "Will Rogers Highway", one of the original highways of the U.S. Highway System but it's taken me awhile to make my way to the historic road.

This highway's presence played a part in my owning a travel trailer again. It and 365 Project. I read an article in Midwest Living magazine that featured the stretch of Route 66 that lies within the Midwestern states. The photographs that accompanied the write-up had me yearning to hit the road for the sake of new picture material. I envisioned my husband and I buying a small camper and making long weekend road trips to various parts of the route in search of unique photo opportunities. And so we bought a camper. But we didn't go to the historic road. We did go to the camper dealer again where we traded for a larger RV. (My cello wouldn't fit in the first one!). But still, no Route 66 trip. That's okay, I've made it there, and had a wonderful time taking photos.

The view on black comes highly recommended this time.
Cool capture and edit. Glad you got an RV big enough for the cello. :-)

Glad you got there. This is a fantastic, bright, colourful image - I could just see it framed and gracing a wall, somewhere. Lovely.

Wonderful shot. Really does pop on black. Is Sky Chief still a working brand in your area?

very nice!

@gardencat Not to my knowledge. I haven't seen a Sky Chief or Texico sign in decades, except for at these carefully preserved historic gas stations.

Glory days indeed, they don't make them like this any more.

Perfect title - I occasionally will come across on back roads of small towns one of the old gas pumps (non-working) and you get the picture of the time in your mind so quickly. The colors are so clear and look terrific on black.
