Tiny Pines

Every time I get these itty-bitty pinecones out, I'm reminded of my Dad and his love for me. I'd been home to North Carolina for a visit, gone somewhere on a hike with my family and my parents, and seen these darling pinecones everywhere on the ground. Several months later I saw a Christmas craft project that used little pines, and remembering having seen oodles of them in NC, asked my parents if they'd go get me a bunch and mail them to me. My Dad, I guess, was all excited about doing something special for his only daughter, and managed to get himself a speeding ticket for his efforts. I still feel bad about the ticket but love it that my Dad said it was worth it, doing something fun for his kid.

Thanks Dad.
What a sweet memory and a lovely shot! As a daddy's girl myself, love your story.

Nice image and story. I live in NC and saw these pinecones one year. I collected so many and made many Christmas decorations with them.

Thank you, All, for your shared thoughts and comments. Here's a little follow up on the pic; I showed the photo to my dad and read him what I'd written. Despite his having had a stroke a year ago now (one no one can explain because he was in incredible health), he remembered the event crystal clear. He explained that the speed limit had recently been dropped from 65 to 55 mph on that stretch of road, something he wasn't accustomed to after years of driving that highway. My mom highlighted the fact that my dad never speeds, even when running late to get to the airport, something that caused a stressful time or two in their marriage. Dad ended by saying, 'Still worth it for my daughter'.
