It was my goal today to take a picture for the day in my own back yard with my Canon PowerShot SX40, so thank you Mr Cardinal!
I see so many gorgeous shots on here taken with Canon PowerShots SX40 and SX50 (you know who you are!) and I think maybe I didn't give mine a fair chance before I thought I had to have a more expensive camera and lens. I love my EOS 70D but need to take a class on how to use all of its features.
This is just terrific - the light and color are wonderful and great detail - Don't you just love that little camera?? I sure do! Have two bigger DSRL's but go for this one 90% of the time.
@peterlgrave Hi Peter, I was out in the yard taking pictures and the cardinal flew in and hopped around for just a few seconds. I was pretty close to it and had time to get three shots.
Great shot! Fav... I have so many birds in my back yard. I have gotten Mr. Cardinal several times and Mrs. Cardinal once. The ladies are quite elusive.
Wow love the brilliant red color of the cardinal and all the detail! I love my canon sx40 it is starting to give me a little trouble with the lens so I think I will be upgrading to the new sx50. I use it more than my slr camera.

It would be great if we had birds of thisvibrancy Iin the UK. Glad I can still call it The UK this morning. Love your shot taken with your Canon power shot.
Great capture, Lynn. I've sat in the freezing cold with a telephoto hoping to get a picture half this good and come up empty. Fantastic job, catching this red beauty so awesomely.
Thanks for the compliment on the GRT Sprocket shot the other day. That one was fun to put together and shoot.
