This was taken awhile ago, but this is another shot of Green Lakes.Green Lakes State Park's outstanding features are its two glacial lakes surrounded by upland forest. Both Round and Green Lakes are meromictic lakes, which means that there is no fall and spring mixing of surface and bottom waters. Such lakes have a high potential for evidence of ancient plant and animal life.
That water is just beautiful. Thanks for the explanation...had no idea about the meromictic lakes. Sounds like there could be interesting things on the bottom of the lake in the cold water...do people dive to search the lake bottom? The heron is gorgeous !
@mama Carolyn, I don't think they allow diving there. No motorized boats and swimming in only one small area. Actually, there is a great sulfur smell also. Not unbearable but noticeable. It's a beautiful park.
This is an absolutely beautiful and wonderful heron photo -- it is so clear I feel like I could reach in and touch the bird. Enjoyed reading your commentary, as well.
When despair for the world grows in me, and I wake in the night at the least sound in fear of what my life and my children's lives may be -- I go and lie down where the wood drake rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds. I come into the peace of wild things who do not tax their lives with forethought or grief. I come into the presence of still water. And I feel above me the day-blind stars waiting with their light. For a time I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.”

@allie912 Thank you Allison. He stood there and let me take 100 shots, which I use for painting references. I was thrilled. I got close ups of every part of him plus full shots. I was happy that day.
