Snowy blowy day....What a surprise. I haven't had any cardinals this year and today I had 3 females and one male. Grackles, tufted titmouse, chickadees, blue jays, juncos and one fox squirrel.
I'd say it was a good bird day. My fellow bird watchers will understand.
poor little cardinal! she looks so cold and it looks windy with all that snow blowing. amazing shot though, seriously the focus is great. I cant believe how close you are too. All the snow in her feathers is so cute :)
Lucky you... great picture.....I miss seeing the birds at home. oh well late Friday night we´ll be back from our vacation..hope the birds stuck around.
What a beautiful cardinal- I love how she is dusted in snow, nice shot. A good bird day for sure- I saw a great Horned Owl today and I am in heaven :-)
@hillcrest Oh Cheryl....how great is that. You must have been thrilled. Were you able to get a picture? If not, it's great to see it anyways. @semrants Thanks Sarah and Cheryl for the kind words.
Oh, she's beautiful!!! You've gotten such a wonderful close-up of her!!! I love everything about this--the blowing snow, her beautiful rosy accents, the little piles of snow on her--it's amazing!!!
Look at her! Snow covered, wind blown, gorgeous in her reds and tans. Don't you just love the snow on her crest and blowing in the air. The blustery day!
Such a beautiful sharp photo - I envy your bird pictures...my neighbour and I appear to be competing for the birds and unfortunately, he is winning! Grrrrr!!
@kathyd I have neighbors on each side that seem to get all the birds some days. I have even resorted to taking shots of their feeders. But this one is at mine. It was a busy day.
@rachschofield thank you Rachel. I'm so impressed with Al's pictures that I take that as a wonderful compliment
. @glendq Thanks for the kind words. @miranda Thank you Miranda.
@kaylaferguson It was a very cold snowy, windy day. She sat there for about an hour, and would hop down to the feeder, and back up on the branch. I think she was conserving her energy and staying near the food supply. I know they fluff their feathers out and it insulates them.
We have a bird feeder near our porch, were like the only ones in our neighborhood that does. Everyday there is about 30 birds sitting by it, or sitting on the porch railing waiting for their turn. I can never ever get a good shot of them. Yours is wonderful!
@kaylaferguson Thank you Kayla. I may take a hundred pictures, and only get a few good ones. My purpose of the bird shots, besides just enjoying them, is for reference pictures to use for painting.
what type of birds do you get?
You paint them?? That is awesome! We get blue jays, cardinals, little brown ones (not to sure what they are) and every one in awhile we have a visit from a wood pecker
@kaylaferguson You get a good assortment. Excellent. Yep I do paint them. I've been going through your calendar. You have some wonderful shots. It's nice to meet you. :-)
@palusami@ellida Thanks Graham and Tanya. She sat there for about an hour in the storm, and would drop down to the feeder, eat then back on the branch. It was a stormy day.
She is so beautiful - fabulous shot. Thanks so much for the follow. I hate to disappoint already, but I don't have nearly the wildlife encounters as you do! And I'm even a wildlife bio. :) I can view more wildlife vicariously through your photos!
Beautiful pic, of a beautiful cardinal
Thanks everyone for the kind words and birdwatching with me. :-)
