I transplanted a number of iris two years ago and its taken this time for them to flower. I am delighted in them, this pretty one hidden under the trees, an orange one and a dark blue.
Jessie's 1929 travel journey continues from Edinburgh and she delights in the Lochs and Castles of Scotland. Some of the names were quite difficult but I did find them on a lot of research. One in particular, Tom @okc553 helped me with: Coshieville! It doesn't sound at all Scottish. There were a lot of elite cars on the roads with chaffeurs, one who Mum met cresting a stone bridge and she had to back off. "There was such smiling and lifting of hats - I felt most embarrased - should have got out and curtsyed!" Tummel, Weem, Blair Athol, Dunkeld, the Bridge of Feuch! and then: "Over a humped back bridge, a rise up Glen Geag and how our little bus spluttered! Shaky, it was, for that morning, I just about bust its boiler, and indeed I did blow it out!. It wouldn’t go decently, backfired on every possible occasion and made a fearful noise like a chaff-cutter!" I looked up the Gordon Arms where she stayed and it still looks a beautiful hotel. Is Fochaber a real name -I've yet to find out. 27257 words typed!
What a unique iris! The journal sounds delightful. You should put a shout out to folks from Scotland on the discussion board for help with some of these names. I've got several that follow me but I'm blanking out on their @ names right now. I'll see if I can get back to you with that!
Gorgeous blossom beautifully capture. Great close-up with such clarity on the details and great DOF. To reiterate what I already said, beautifully done!
Oh, Maggie, so lovely that your iris did finally bloom - it's really beautiful. And great work researching all of those Scottish nameplaces - that can't be easy.
That is a really beautiful iris Maggie. Does it have green in its falls? Sadly mine are nearly all finished. I love your beautiful bokeh in the background.
I love this photo and have come to love the Iris. They are beautiful flowers that are different than so many other flowers that I have seen. How wonderful that your Mom was such a writer. Her adventures are so fascinating to hear about. I am so glad you are sharing.
One of my favorite flowers. I live in a very old house and the former owner loved them as well. The first year we lived there I was surprised by the different colors and varieties that we had!
I was catching up on your shots today and took another look at this one. Saw my promise to give you some names- glad I did, I'd forgotten! Here are 3 lovely ladies I know via 365 that live in Scotland: @sarah19 Sarah Bremner, @jmj Jennifer Jones (although she may have finished I think), and @melorac Carole. And Louise @louisefrance too!
Continue to love reading your mom's adventures. Love how she writes.
Those irises.... such exotic colours.
