So pretty these wee cactii flowers! I got wet knees out there trying to get a close shot so had to move inside.
Re; Mothers 1929 Travels: I had a lot of 365 help with the latest episode as I couldn't decipher a word and had a number of links sent to me. Mum left Fort William, visited Oban which she thought was a good honeymoon spot then set off through the highlands. Got a tack in the tyre and a nice man helped them change it. Saw several cars in ditches, and another: . "One man at Fort Augustus, pushing like mad – a tall man he was and a little car. By the time he had got the thing going, clambered in it and curled his legs round, it had stopped again!" They put some water in the car at the "Rest and be Thankful" road and 'flew' up and up, passing several buses" This road has a great history which I enjoyed finding out about. Goes up 860feet! Then on to Loch Lomond which they loved and took a boat ride on the "Prince George" up the lake, stopped at Inversnaid and then bus further up the Glen. Here's where I got stuck- she said she could see the cottage where ? was born. As it was Rob Roy country, I thought it might have been him but the word did not resemble Rob or Roy. On reading further on, I found the word written again and in context of the paragraph, could identify it as "Ellen" She was the subject of Sir Walter Scotts poem, Lady of the Lake. There is also, Ellen's Isle in Loch Katrine and this was mentioned again. 29574 words - should make 30000 today!
Oh this is so beautiful, Maggiemae. Love the colors.
I'm so glad your mom wrote so much detail. I have noticed the older I get the worse my handwriting is--thank goodness all my journals are typewritten (no one would EVER be able to decipher a thing!!!!
@worldbiking thank you, Amaya and @judithdeacon -my husband has said I must take a break from the story - he says, my eyes look like two piss holes in the snow!
@maggiemae Thank you so much, Maggiemae. It is a wonderful place here on 365 as we get to see the lives of others, make friends like you. Now if I can keep caught up with comments and posts. I do what I can.
Lovely shot, Maggiemae. I do like the composition with the colour so nicely complemented by the dark negative space. Also enjoying your transcription of Mother's 1929 Travels.
Lovely to read your commentary. Hubby and I spent our honeymoon in Oban :o) My Christmas cactus is in full bloom at the moment too. This one has a gorgeous rhubarb and custard colour to it xx
I feel like I'm a journey of a lifetime- and it is a dream of mine to go to Scotland someday and trace my roots. Traveling with your mum is a good start! Lovely shot as well.
