This pub was built in 1877 and now has a new look having been taken over by one of Oamaru's great ladies of food service providers. It has high ceilings and has a street frontage. I took pictures of the other lounges, dining rooms and accommodation rooms.
Mum didn't go far yesterday (another busy day for me). Her 1929 diary took her from Glasgow, Loans, and, Prestwick and down to Ayr and The Firth. She took a paddle steamer to Rothesay and didn't like the boat in fact she said about the trip,"I hated it" The boat was interesting to research as was the screw steamer she took later, called "Duchess of Argyle" Launched in the 1890's! She found a lovely B&B in Prestwick which had carpet in the hall and on the staircase, even in the bathroom! There was a real fire downstairs which appealed to them more than the usual evening walk. No name for this establishment. Mum always loved Burns and now she is in Burn's country!
Lovely old pub, looks like a place full of character....I identified with your description of taking the photo and backing up....!! My photography tutor on the course I'm doing is always telling us to check our surroundings for health & safety issues!
I love the clean lines & airiness of this establishment & run by this lady it's bound to do well.
love the way you write''Mum didn't go far today'' as if you are talking about the present!!
So great that she was bold enough to say "she hated" that part of the trip. Good for her.
