Dark Orchid by maggiemae

Dark Orchid

I think this is actually quite a different looking flower to say, a rose, but in its way it has beauty. Its not mine but photographed at our Gardens in the Hot House. I wanted to buy an orchid to have in my Glass House but they were $45 for only 1 stalk!

Three good things;
1.Planted about 35 broad beans in the vegie garden which John dug ( he said that's a blue job). My 'pink' job was to vacuum the carpet.
2. He cleaned the log burner window. You do it by putting a bit of the wood ash on a tissue and lightly rubbing it over the glass. It comes out as clear as new!
3. My sister came to stay for the night and we talked till 11pm!
Lovely capture of a special plant (but $45 is rather a lot!).

Its a lot for a plant but it is beautiful Maggie, would it need special treatment.

First I think your TGT are all excellent ..I like the tips for the wood burner & the 'blue' & 'pink' jobs!! I must admit Harry does a pink job with the hoovering although I did it this morning & he definitely does the digging.
Orchids are so expensive but must admit I am not a lover of them , thank goodness at that price but do say this is a rather exotic looking flower!
Just spoken to them on North Island & they were going to some sort of festival at Raglan were they are shipping in lorry loads of snow...Max is very excited!!
June 14th, 2013
@happypat Didn't know that about Raglan! We have a mid winter swim coming up but might get real snow this winter so don't have to truck it in!

Looks rather exotic! Wonderful flower.

Orchids are a bit strange to look at aren't they? So nice about your 3 good things!
June 14th, 2013
I really like the darkness of this shot. There are so many different types of orchid aren't there xx

The subdued tones and subtle colours in this are beautiful. Best on large view.

Beautiful

Beautiful shot. Great color tones. Cheap orchids here sell for $10. Prices can go a lot higher, depending upon the type of orchid. I did not blink my eyes when I read that this orchid cost you $45.

Lovely view of the internals. Great list of good events.

We saw an orchid farm in Hawaii. They are certainly beautiful flowers!! You've captured this one very nicely!
(It reminds me a bit of "Alice in Wonderland" when she's singing with the flowers.)

Wonderful shot Maggie
June 15th, 2013
That's the plant, Rick, not just the flower @digitalrn .

LOvely

Nice capture. I love orchids and if I remember correctly, they take a lot of care. Years ago, my brother had quite a few different varieties of orchid.
June 15th, 2013
@grannysue I think you are right, Linda! A friend on 365 got me enthusiastic to try but at $45 a plant and my poor green thumb, its not practical!

Jo
I would be too concerned about killing it for that price.
June 15th, 2013
They are such amazing flowers.
June 15th, 2013
Such a beauty Maggiemae. They are incredible plants. x

@michelleyoung Do you know - @squaresparrow - Michelle? Lives in Scotland and I love to see what that beautiful land can look like!
June 15th, 2013
Just started to follow her as well :) I don't get many shots of the land as I am always so bus.. I am hoping out get out a bit more this summer.
June 15th, 2013
How gorgeous and exotic! I'm always amazed at how long an orchid blossom lasts and how little care they actually require for such fragile looking plants. Love your three good things ~ sounds like you had fun with your sister!
June 15th, 2013

June 15th, 2013
It looks like it's smiling- but not at $45 a stalk! wow!
