All sucked out.. by maggiemae

All sucked out..

My newly purchased vacuum sealer was necessary to use for the sous vide method of cooking. Food is placed in a plastic bag, the air is sucked out and the bag sealed. The method of sous vide is to place it then into a pan of heated water. The temperature has to be reasonably exact. Time is long with potatoes taking 1 -2 hours and tougher cuts of meat - up to 8 hours. However the food cooks without letting any moisture come out and so retains maximum flavour and nutrition.

Three good things:
1. This machine took a bit of time to work it out - as usual, translated from an asian language.
2. My first flamenco lesson.
3. I loved all the nice things people said about our Ukelele performance! Preen, preen!
Well that really sucks;-). How cool. Oooh, I want flamenco photos!:) Good for you, Maggiemae. You are fun!

Cool capture of your new machine and those chicken legs! Can't wait to see your pictures of your Flamenco performances when you start those!

I use this machine to seal before freezing, but the cooking method is new to me. Can you condiment, or marinate meats before sealing them? Sounds very interesting.

Have you practiced gripping a rose between your teeth? And stamping?
April 29th, 2014
@anazad511 If you were just putting the food into the bag before cooking - yes - i"ve put salt, herbs, butter.

@catwoman2 A prickly tongue is not what I need Mary. No, we aren't up to the stamping yet - just creeping forward, waving arms wildly and fast turns (where one falls over)!

Yummy shot! I wonder if you could put that in the crock pot?
April 29th, 2014
@juliedduncan Yes, you could if you could get the water temperature up to 80deg. With meats, its 55degC

Great clear focus, Maggie. I've always wanted one of these, not necessarily for sous vide, but just for storing things.

Awesome. we too have one of these machines. Never thought about using the bags to cook in. We use it to freeze meats.
Must try!!!

A good way to preserve
April 30th, 2014
was the flamenco lesson included with the sealer instructions?
April 30th, 2014
@chard The thought is boggling, Richard!
April 30th, 2014
Nice. This is what I need. Cool shot!

@glendq Thank you Glenda! I've got tons of time on my hands so its nice to choose what to do!
April 30th, 2014
Oh I love my food saver and I also had a bit of a challenge with it at first - but once I started using it I became a bit obsessed, sucking the air out of anything that wasn't in a jar. Hee hee.
Love your three things - well done on the ukelele performance.

Looks a great bit of kit Maggie.
April 30th, 2014
I've shied off buying one of those, food doesn't last that long here. Great capture.
April 30th, 2014
Very good advertising shot! Looking forward to flamenco pics!

These are wonderful machines aren't they? Flamenco? You are adventurous! Have fun wit t!
April 30th, 2014
This is a very useful kitchen gadget......the versatility of this is endless. It would be fantastic for storage ....you could put all sorts of herbs & stuff on first......but for cooking after in a water bath, my word Masterchef here I come!
I will have to look up this machine.
I fancy you as a Flamenco dancer!
April 30th, 2014
I've been quite curious of how these machines work, they seem to be quite helpful! A great capture! :)
April 30th, 2014
So interesting to read about this method, but I hate reading and sometimes following directions....LOL!!!! I bought a Shark vacuum gadget a year and a half ago and it still sits in my closet awaiting someone to put it together. Hubby, help! :-)
April 30th, 2014
Ooh, I shall be interested to see how you get on. I gather the taste will be fantastic.
April 30th, 2014
I couldn't use that method - I boil pans dry in far shorter times than 8 hours - often because I'm doing 365... Flamenco sounds like a lot of fun!
April 30th, 2014
Maggie does flamenco , now that's one 365 photo I'm looking forward too :)
April 30th, 2014
I want to try this method !! If you weren't living in NZ and me in Switzerland I will probably ask you to invite me ;)
Flamenco ?! I hope you have the dress and I'm looking forward to see shots ;)
Ole ! 💃💃💃💃

@cocobella Its fabulous Corinne - you just have to prepare a lot earlier. I love your little flamenco icons!
May 1st, 2014
@judithg Its on so low a temperature, Judith, it would never boil dry!
May 1st, 2014
@cimes1 I used to be like that with directions but now if I want something done, I have to read the directions myself and just do it!

Bev
Nice little gadget. Can you use it on other things besides food?
May 1st, 2014
