Just as well... by maggiemae

Just as well...

I saw this cloud at sunset! Its a streaker! My designated photo disappeared into the ethernet as my computer was going so slow then eventually after trying to rebuild, it shoved 14000 photos into fairyland! My iPhoto had 0 photos! Managed to retrieve some of them from backup but somehow it added 100s of pictures I had not taken! People I did not know, etc etc.

Three good things:
1. Being patient while the computer took hours to do this.
2. Hubby and I thought of a good idea when we can't read the small print on the TV - we have two small concert binoculars and could use them! The picture of this happening made us laugh!
3. A hitch in the Following Settings was happily solved.
That is freaking me OUT? It deleted thousands of pics? I 'd be in a coma right now. And then it gave you stranger's pics? That is so weird! I don't get it. I am so sorry!

Oh disaster maggiemae...how could it do that.....you seem to be taking it remarkably well.....I hope they return!
I laughed out loud thinking of you both watching TV with your binoculars!
Fantastic flying saucer of a sunset! It's very beautiful in that midnight blue sky!

@happypat Oh, well, I've got used to bad things happening - one just recovers and moves on trying to pretend it didn't happen! My computer might have to go to the doctor - good thing I have the MacbookAir!

Something similar happened to me yesterday - was using aperture 3 and iPhoto - there was an automatic update that did not support the new update and therefore deleted this yrs photos. Had backed some on a hard drive but have now decided to back up via a disc on monthly basis. Not sure what format I sd be usining, tiff?
June 19th, 2014
@espyetta The Time Machine got most of them but I lost the day's ones, Marybeth. I will just be banging the delete button for a while!
June 19th, 2014
@tremerryn I can't help you there - I always use jpeg. Our backup, Time Machine holds 1 terabyte so its quite good.
June 19th, 2014
Stunning colour.
June 19th, 2014
Apologies am using phone - sd read new updated did not support old update/app and therefore deleted. Have tried to find but cannot.

June 19th, 2014
splendid orange clouds !
June 19th, 2014
Something similar happened to me a year or so ago in Aperture which is a suped up version of Iphoto. It still had my photos in a second library. I had to locate them and re link them. You may well find they are still there. I would not give up.
I had accidentally transferred libraries not deleted them. Lovely cheerful sky. Good luck with your pics.
June 19th, 2014
Beautiful clouds and capture of them. Think I'd cry if my pics were deleted! Lol.

June 19th, 2014
Stunning sky - hope you resolve your computer probs. FAV
June 19th, 2014
Lovely flying saucer shape - fab colours! Good luck with the photos! What's a pain! I laughed at your comment about watching tv - today I started moaning to my sister that there was something wrong with the picture on our tv. Yes you guessed it - when I put my glasses on it was ok! I hate wearing my glasses all the time - love your idea of using binoculars! Lol!
June 19th, 2014
Beautiful shot
June 19th, 2014
What a shame, and how strange. I like this cloud though, even though at first I looked again to see if it was running across the sky with its pants down ...:)
June 20th, 2014
@tristansmum Stephanie! Clouds don't have pants! This one has a zip, though!
June 20th, 2014

Beautifully captured, these weather events are so fleeting.

Lovely sky, Maggiemae. The colors are beautiful and nice silhouette. I back up my photos onto a portable hard drive religiously. I refuse to even let one photo disappear should anything happen to my computer. They aren't that expensive and it's simple USB plug in with no software to install as it's Plug and Play.
June 20th, 2014
Stunning shot,,,,a fav!
June 20th, 2014
@prttblues We have a portable hard drive too - but there was something wrong with it and it finally got a 'soft' reset with the help of the Apple man. Downloading 127gb! Will take hours and hours!
June 20th, 2014
Lovely capture ....
June 20th, 2014

June 20th, 2014
Amazing! What an astounding and beautiful sunset! FAV
June 20th, 2014
Oh no! I hope the photos return or that you've had a backup and they are safe somewhere. Your shots are so wonderful -- what a loss!! This one is a beauty -- a dramatic stripe in the sky.
June 20th, 2014
darn! was that about the time i flew by oamaru on my broomstick? :-) this has awesome colours. i lost a whole load of photos i just took 3 years ago. i cried. then i went back to the marina the next day to take photos again. it wasn't the same of course. hope you recover yours. i use an external drive now and a back it up every month.
June 20th, 2014
Gorgeous sky, fav!

I hope you'll manage to recover the lost photos! I always backup on 2 different external drives, 1 daily on the network and from time to time on an USB disk to avoid this disaster!
June 20th, 2014
Oh no! How terrible to lose so many photos. I keep meaning to do a complete backup, but somehow never get round to it!
Love the colours in your shot. Looks like a flying saucer to me too.
June 20th, 2014
Lovely streaker - far prettier than the one at the footy the other day :)
All this talk of photos disappearing into the ether scares me - I lost a whole lot when I changed computers about 2 years ago - I still have the old hard drive so am hoping I can retrieve them one day.
June 20th, 2014
gorgeous capture.
June 21st, 2014
1- Beautiful shot!
2- I use a magnifying glass for reading the small print in my text books. Why not binoculars on the telly?!
3. Now I know why I over save all my pictures! I keep the camera card. I download all the monthly pictures on to a CD at the end of the month as well. The fellow at the camera store said it was overkill. But I'll never loose at least one copy of my pictures that way. (Glad I read this backwards too as I know you were able to get them all back!)
