This is one part of the Otago Rail Trail where one can bike for 150km if one wants to. I just hopped on Ruby for this section. It was 27degC (80degF) but I was doing 20 - 27km/hr so sped along here.
Another photo in my other album.
Three good things:
1. I had the whole wide landscape to myself!
2. A nice cold wine at the next little country hotel.
3. Home again with the clover growing madly in the lawns.
Gorgeous landscape and nice to see bee hives... I keep hearing that there are less and less bee hives all the time, and that they are so important to our environment.
You were going a fair speed.....Harry & Alex were surprised how fast you go! Very pretty landscape & I always love to see the hives. Are those Manuka trees there?
@happypat That is a big gully on the other side of the hives and they are all willows there - in this bare landscape, the only trees you see and they line the creeks!
Another lovely sunny shot. I learned recently that beehives are painted those lovely pastel colours in order to be more attractive to the bees. Who would have thought that bees could be so house-proud.
Wonderful landscape. I'm visualizing you whizzing along on Ruby. 2 of my friends have flown to Vietnam yesterday to cycle from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi. I admire their courage but think I'd rather be joining you and Ruby on the rail trails of Otago
My husband and I will be cycling Tuscany in July. AFTER we booked and paid we were told that Tuscany is hilly (gulp) and that time of year is hot (gulp) - and we are seniors! But views like this remind me that my camera will be very happy (though my hips won't be). Lovely colour and lines intros photo - love the bee hives
The colours of Central Otago is majestic. I loved every moment of the trail, but I am not sure Summer is the right season, far too hot for me. Enjoy the wine there!
@yaorenliu Actually when I rode it it was hot, Yao but the wind was minimal - just a soft breeze! I've done it later in the season and the wind can be soul destroying then!
