Little church on a hill by maggiemae

Little church on a hill

Its Autumn here but the trees have blown most of their wonderfully coloured leaves away. I tested Sophie’s boot to see whether it took my folded up electric bike! John had to remove the seat and there was no problem. After re-assembling this bike, I cruised down the road with the wind behind me! If I flapped my wings I would have taken off!

There is a lovely rural church here situated overlooking the North Otago valleys and hills so I took photos from the front, the rear and the side! All the time listening to cars screaming down this rural road so. being aware, I didn’t have any difficult situations.

Three good things;
1. I didn’t expect this one in B&W to be my favourite
2. I found a dead owl, an apple in a plastic bag and a young runner on my journey down the bike trail here! He raised his hand in a quick response, which the owl did not!
3. I somehow got John on a history trail of his early childhood experiences. He has had 19 different places where he lived from the age of 14 to 18! Thats incredible! I just wish I had a tape recorder!
Awesome b&w

Love the B&W and the composition is fantastic. Glad the bike fit in the car. Guess it is a ways from the house. Sad to find a dead owl .

Love the image and the edit of this scene -- its almost 3D !!

Brilliant result from your processing. Great composition to start with.

Super processing and composition. You can fold up your electric bike?
May 10th, 2015
REally love your edit. Super looking places!

nice little chapel, wonder what the inside is like?
May 10th, 2015
@skstein Yes, Sandy - it folds up into a small area really! One of the reasons we bought it!

@chard Thats something I really must do, Richard. I think there might be a window that will look out on to a great rural landscape! I'm always a bit scared someone - the vicar or similar might confront me and ask me if I want to come on Sundays!

What a charming church... Lovely curved rural road, too. Your edit is very effective to bring out all the textures.

Looks really good in b&w and gorgeous on black.
May 10th, 2015
@rosiekerr I came up this little hill here and stopped on the other side to take this photo! Thanks Rosie

Interesting perspective on this church, and the clouds add to the overall feeling and mood of the composition.
May 10th, 2015
@nickspicsnz The B&W gave it light and shadow whereas the coloured photo meant the church was all in the black and as a silhouette! B&W is so good, I reckon!
May 10th, 2015
@congaree Thanks John - the late afternoon sun was on the other side of this church and it worked ok in B&W!
May 10th, 2015
@genesis_one I'm sad about the owl - its the 2nd dead owl I've come across and I have never seen a live owl! Just feel that they are rare here!
May 10th, 2015
Beautiful comp, light and processing, fav. I'm sorry about the owl.
May 10th, 2015
Such a nice looking church and looks good in b/w
May 10th, 2015
Great architectural shot! Though in the narrative I admit I was trying to figure out why you'd put an electric bike in a 'boot' as in 'footwear' -- then realized of course you meant 'trunk'! I love the 365 language differences that come through even when all writing in English.

A beautiful scene and such lovely processing!! Love your stories Maggie Mae!!!
May 10th, 2015
What beautiful and dramatic shot
May 10th, 2015

@thistle thank you, Joyce for enjoying as much as I did!
May 10th, 2015

@sangwann Thanks Dione - its 'awesome' to have this comment from you!
May 10th, 2015
A lovely image which so suits b&w.
May 10th, 2015
what a lovely b&w shot, Wind behind you on your way to the church, I guess, you will have a hard way back.
May 10th, 2015
@yaorenliu No, I cheated, Yao - got a ride in the car with the bike in the boot (trunk) then coasted back home! The wind was at my back all the way - annoying in some ways as it blew my hair over my face and I couldn't see!
May 10th, 2015
Wonderful b&w image. Sorry to hear about the owl - eating poisoned mice perhaps although that I hear the cause of death of most moreporks is flying into things.
May 10th, 2015
I like the way the wires seem to slice through the scene
May 10th, 2015
Fabulous b&w shot...great composition
May 10th, 2015
you could've used the video function of your camera to record john's reminiscing! that would have been pricesless! 19 places in a span of 4 years! that is incredible! the black and white brings out a whole lot of details in a photo like this yet doesn't make it cluttered.
May 10th, 2015
Great shot and processing, sad about the owl
May 10th, 2015
Don't go that way on a Sunday maggiemae!
A very atmospheric photo .....the detail is incredible.......the little church & the way the road runs past & down the hill......feet on handlebars going down I think!!
May 10th, 2015
@happypat I never did that, Pat - feet on handlebars! I can't even get near that position now. There was no activity near this church at that time - probably on once a month nowadays!
May 10th, 2015
Very dramatic in b&w! Well done.
May 11th, 2015
You did a great job spotlighting this beauty
May 11th, 2015
Lovely shot
May 11th, 2015
Great image and there's something great about freewheeling with the wind behind you
May 11th, 2015
@kelly2 I felt that if I spread my arms out, I could sail!
May 11th, 2015
This is a fabulous B&W shot, Maggiemae. Has a bit of an eerie feel to it. Wow, John moved a lot in such a few years. A tape recorder would have been nice. Maybe next time when reminiscing. FAV
May 12th, 2015
Pretty little church and lovely shot. I thought of the video function in your camera too. You can record that way- or some cell phones do this as well. New territory for you to explore!
May 13th, 2015
Fabulous black and white.
