62 kms away! by maggiemae

62 kms away!

Snow fell on the high country around us but not down in our coastal and snug town. We went up to our “Lookout” high above Oamaru as I knew that was the best view of our local mountains! The air was so clear here that everything became very focused! The highest mountain here was 62 km away - John found that on Google Earth.

Three good things:
1. It was so cold in our well insulated house last night that my nose was cold - just doesn’t happen! But snug under the covers. The lowest temp in NZ was -20degC. Not as cold as Toronto!
2. Getting excited about publishing companies who are contacting me - do they want the job or just the money!
3. Huddled over a computer for too long made me stiff - it was suggested that the trampoline might loosen me up! It worked!
Beautiful place and view of course. Great shot. fav.

The publishers want the money I am sure! I have a whole new respect for you if you are jumping on a trampoline!
June 23rd, 2015
@grammyn When I jump on the tramp, Katy - I can see into 3 neighbours properties! Aren't I naughty!

I love the look of the village/city snuggled below the snow covered mountains. You had a great vantage point and made the most of it. Terrific image!
June 23rd, 2015
What a beautiful landscape! Those snow covered mountains look wonderful! I can now visualise you on the trampoline peeping at the neighbours! You should try taking a photo from up there !

Wow! This is just gorgeous!
June 24th, 2015
Had to laugh, when you said -20C not as cold as Toronto. I don't want to think about winter yet, we just had first days of summer, first day of summer holiday coming up soon for the kids. of well, time flies.

Love your picture of your little town and the mountains in the background. great processing, like the colours.
June 24th, 2015
@bruni Thanks Bruni - even though its winter there is still plenty of colour! Normally doesn't get too cold - hardly ever minus in temps! This winter might be different!
June 24th, 2015
Oh wow! This is spectacular Maggie! Fav!
June 24th, 2015

June 24th, 2015
@mona65 Thank you Mona - you just might have enabled this photo to go on to PP!
June 24th, 2015
@tonydebont The air was so crystal clear that a photograph looked better than it ever would have done, Tony!
June 24th, 2015
what an awesome view ...to grey and miserable to see our mountains at the moment but Its cold enough so I'm sure we have some snow on the higher peaks
June 24th, 2015
Wow what a stunning view Maggie. Also a great photograph!!
June 24th, 2015
@steeler There's something about snow on mountain peaks that is photographic! Must be the contrast! Thanks for your nice comment, Howard!
June 24th, 2015
Majestic view, all the colors of a rainbow!
June 24th, 2015
Instant fav. A fantastic view and a fantastic capture of it. Here the air is hazy because of the glaring sunshine.
June 24th, 2015
@sangwann It is so often hazy here too - looks like fog or steam or cloud. A unique time to take this shot!
June 24th, 2015
wow!
June 24th, 2015
Fantastic shot!!
June 24th, 2015
Cool shot!
June 24th, 2015
So lovely and clear, looks like a cold but beautiful day.
June 24th, 2015
that is close enough!
June 24th, 2015
how pretty
June 24th, 2015
the mountains seem clearly to be a fence between normal towns and some other alien location.
June 24th, 2015
Lee
So many layers to this shot.
June 24th, 2015
A wonderful view across to the mountains.
June 24th, 2015
so absolutely beautiful, an instant fav, an yes, something special about snow on mountain tops that just appeals. fav for me, also.
June 24th, 2015
Wonderful view.
June 24th, 2015
Stunning view
June 24th, 2015
What a lovely view! the mountains look gorgeous! :)
June 24th, 2015
What a fantastic view of the mountains!
And good for you for jumping on the trampoline! I'm impressed - my hips would never stand it!
I'm pleased you're getting some response from NZ printers - now you'll just have to decide which one will give you the best service.
June 24th, 2015
@kwiksilver I think it will be easy to choose, Gillian - the Aussie one seems the most professional but I don't like the idea of 'paper back'! Its not my hips that suffer on the tramp but my bladder!
June 24th, 2015
Beautiful view in that incredibly clear air, fav! Not as cold as Toronto at its coldest, but still pretty cold. Hope the freezing fingers of the cold do not reach to where you are.
June 25th, 2015
Looks glorious! My daughter sent me a pic of frozen puddles at the school bus stop this morning that she said had been frozen solid for 3 days so far!
June 25th, 2015
@tristansmum John's actually pulled up the eiderdown in the early part of the morning, Stephanie!. We can still work our fingers, though!
@pitasmum
June 25th, 2015
Gorgeous view. The mountains look beautiful with snow on them. And the contrast with the town and fields looks great.
June 25th, 2015
How lovely.
June 25th, 2015
i thought you're vacationing in the alps! gorgeous view you got here, maggiemae!
June 25th, 2015
The mountains look amazing. Is this where you live, nestled among the countryside and below the mountains? It seems that you are on the coast too.
June 29th, 2015
@jennywren Yes, Jen - Oamaru has a harbour and is surrounded by hills and then there is countryside only about 5 minutes away and over there a mountain range which protects us from a lot of weather!
June 29th, 2015
@maggiemae how great to have the best of three worlds right on your doorstep.
