For the life of me, I can’t remember this flower’s name! Its not a daffodil nor is it expected - its the 3rd July! Mid winter! Its growing by the front door. But we did see some new lambs in photos in our newspaper! There is a lot of winter to come still!
Later: Thanks to those 365'ers below, I've found the right name for these white stars!
Three good things:
1. Able to spend a whole day on the Journal! Only 20 pages to finish for final editing and proof reading. Do you know that all the overseas post came in to Britain by boat in 1929?
2. Ran out of porridge for breakfast but thought of other alternatives - like rhubarb thawed from the freezer and muesli plus coconut greek yoghurt!
3. Our boiling tap has developed a leak - that part of the floor is extremely clean - and the unit has to be fixed! Now we have to boil a pot on the stove top! Doesn’t take too long but one must plan!
@kiwinanna@grammyn@grammyn@psychographer Thanks all of you - put me on the right track and I've identified it as Narcissus tazetta papyraceous, known as paperwhites.
Jonquil or Narcissis ...I can't rememvpbervwhich is which....they have lovely perfume! If these are out you are coming into Spring I reckon! The light is hitting just the right spot!
@happypat No, its the middle of winter, Pat! We have at least 2 more months of cold weather before Spring pops up! I must get down on my knees and smell them!
@taffy I thought it was a bulb too, Taffy but forgot the word - thanks to the others above, I've discovered its real name! Narcissus tazetta papyraceous, known as paperwhites.
Jonquil was what sprang to mind but I bow to greater knowledge! It is a beautiful flower which we would normally see in springtime here. It must be in a very sheltered spot! Hope you get your leak sorted - such a pain as water can do a lot of damage!
Ahh yes paper whites, I have bought little kits and grown them inside in the Winter!! Lovely capture, how does a boiling tap work, is it like a hot water heater
@brillomick It is set in the counter and underneath there is a little boiler connected to the water supply and this is heated with a thermostat. It means you can have have boiling water at any time, Mickey!
Beautiful shot, lovely composition and focus, you have caught the delicate looking petals well. Impressed by your creative breakfast. Fascinating bits of history like the post coming by post, it's, does focus your mind on how far communication has come.
you got the answers; my grandmother gave me some bulbs when I was a girl. We planted them and I thought about her every year... Interesting breakfast... (hmmm).
From reading the comments, I can now say "Lovely paperwhites!" The light is hitting the petals just right. What a delightful luxury of time, to have so much to spend finishing up your editing, too.
Isn't 365 ever so helpful?!! Now you know the name of the flower that has been growing by your front door! If only someone could identify the red flower that is growing at my front yard I would be ever grateful, but I think my followers are not as flower savvy as yours!!
Well Maggie, you know that I'm not to good at naming flowers, but i can still appreciate them! This is nicely photographed. I like the sound of your alternative breakfast but fear that I would have to put so much sugar on it that my body would object!
#3. Bother! Planning is no fun!!
