Day II of our Rail trip. Although it started well there were were a total of about 4 hours waiting in various parts of the journey all relating to a compressor failure! Some parts of the country had no internet connection and we were forced to indulge in conversation!! Some very interesting passengers - some who were retired train drivers. Of course there were the train spotters!
Three good things:
1. Superb scenery!
2. Rain and cold didn't matter in the barest of stations,....waiting!
3. Lots of photographers with long lenses and I knew that I could get just as good photograph - as here!
A wonderful capture Maggiemae ( no matter the length of your lenses !! ) Enjoy the trip ! I love the glow from the oncoming train --it really brings the scene to life !!
@amandal Its only 6 days and 5 nights but we don't sleep on the train! Because its NZ there are so many rules and not the same luxuries as on Canada and USA trains but really fabulous experiences!
Sounds like you're having a great trip. I'd love to travel across NZ in a train - I bet the scenery is spectacular. I like this shot showing the trains going both ways, but I especially like the evening light.
This sounds like a wonderful trip. I love your POV in this shot with the hillside in the background and the colorful trains. I hope they can resolve the problems with the compressor and no more delays.
It sounds like you are on an inaugural train ride....all those interested parties, they will have plenty to say for themselves! I hope you are warm enough waiting around on those train stations!
All that bush in the background & the real feel of trains with their noise & steam! This is a very atmospheric photo maggiemae!
You are on another adventure! And once again, we must quote the wise photographers always say, "It's not the camera that takes a good shot- it's the one who's holding it".
Nice shot, Maggie. It's perfect. I was told by the photographer who took my photo that I don't need to get a camera with big interchangeable lenses. She thought that my camera was pretty good! And ditto to what @olivetreeann says! Oh - and congrats on hitting the TT and PP! :)
@skstein There are some people with big lens, Sandy but its not a photographers meet - just a bunch of people who like riding in a train! Some of the tracks we are going on haven't been used for passenger trains for donkey's years!
....and, you were right....this is a great shot....it really conveys the feeling of being at a train station, the anticipation, the waiting.... It does sound like there was a lot of waiting involved, but now that I read your comments above, I guess it does not matter since this is a rail journey. I hope you had a fabulous time....I love train travel, and I would go out of my way to experience that in any country we visit! FAV!
