From rocks to treetops. Today we almost got on the train outside our hotel but the rain forced buses to take us to the station as the ground was too muddy. The rain cleared enough to enjoy the Treetops Walk just outside of Hokitika. It was well designed and so high above the tops of the green natural rain forest. Only the rimu trees towered over this. This was this tower of 100 steps that one could climb to the top. One could…… but one didn’t!…. and that was me! I don’t like going downhill particularly when its almost vertical!
Three good things:
1. There were some other people, including guys who didn’t want to climb 100 steps.. but an 87 and really grey-haired woman did as well as John!
2. Its great to hear how many people do not want to change our NZ flag!
3. On our return to the hotel, the train stopped right outside! I’ve got proof!
This is on the bucket list. Have done a couple in Aus and they are fantastic
Not so keen on the tower climb either. I'm in the don't chsnge the flag camp.
It looks sturdy enough that I would try it....as long it doesn't sway! to climbing the stairs I would have to say no. going up is still ok, but coming down where I can look through, no thanks. we have tree top walks here, but they were made of ropes and "sticks" I call them. not for me.
This looks like fun. I know today I couldn't do the hundred steps, I have a feeling that just the uphill climb would be more then my lungs could endure these days. Still it would be nice to get that bird!s eye. View..
Great pov and processing here Marg. You have added an industrial touch to the treetops. Re the flag ... given the pathetic choices they made for us to choose from I would imagine that there will be many more people wanting to keep the old. Personally I favour a new look that says goodbye to the colonial days, but we don't need to throw the baby out with the bath water.
this is a great shot, maggiemae! i climbed 350 wobbly steps made of rocks last year just to get to the top of a hill where there was a lake. my knees were cursing me but to get a shot, i must go. i won't hesitate to climb this, but woe is or are the people behind me because i would be very very slow on the descend. unless vertigo sets in, in which case calling in an air ambulance would be in order. or they can just push me down. :-) congrats on a nice shot. was the woman with really grey hair old?
Love the way you've composed and edited this Maggiemae it's a great shot with lots of interest. I think I would have gone up the tower but it's going underground that I'm not keen on.
Chicken! Whenever I'm abroad I try everything that I wouldn't do normally, including climbing heights. Beautiful editing on this one. Seems the weather was not co-operating.
So, if you don't climb the steps, how do you get up there? Is there an elevator? I would definitely take the elevator but wish I still had the ability to climb the steps. Or if I knew I had the entire day I might just take my time at it. Why? I'd be certain there would be some cool shots taken from those heights! Good shot!
@olivetreeann there is a road going up to the start of the Walk which extends over a deep valley full of natural rain forest. The steps are up this tower and wind around the side! Ugh for me!
Not so keen on the tower climb either. I'm in the don't chsnge the flag camp.
