Land ahoy! by maggiemae

Land ahoy!

All day long on another sea day we saw these mountainous and snow covered islands. The Islands north of Japan belonging to Russia. Naturally being up at 48deg latitude it was freezing - went to -.4 degC. This photo was taken with frozen fingers!

Three Good Things:
1. Watching people - it takes all sorts, we say to ourselves!
2. Another dance class, this time, Swing, which I do like though its really energetic and I got tired.
3. A bit more time allowed on the internet
An absolutely gorgeous shot...... And we were told that Russia and Japan are still fighting over who really owns this area.. Are you going across the Sea of Japan from Japan to Petropavlovsk the Siberian Peninsula? We cross the sea and spent an afternoon there. Not exactly a lovely community......... but an interesting shore excursion anyway. From there we came down through the Aleutian Islands and disembarked at Vancouver.

What a gorgeous sight -- the azure blue seas and the snow capped mountains - so beautiful ,but I hear your cry -- so cold and frozen fingers !! Love your No 1 People Watching !! -- a great hobby when there is nothing better to do ! -- I love doing it myself !and sometimes can be a great laugh -- of course, in the observation of human nature !! lol !

@maggiemae Sounds like you are taking about the same 32 day cruise (two back to back Holland America cruises) of China, Japan, South Korea, Petro, Alaska, etc. Awesome. Will be glad to see you photos and hear all about you trip when you return home.

Stunning range of snow covered mountains Maggie, it looks like you imagine Alaska to be! Good job you bought your coat! I love swing music & watching others but could not attempt it myself unless I had a competent partner, I think that's the secret, a man who knows how to dance & lead!

Thanks for sacrificing your fingers for this gorgeous shot for us. I love the blues and whites in it. Such a beautiful deep intense color.

@aglennc We had to do 3 back to back, Anita - and a much smaller ship! Silversea.
May 11th, 2016
@happypat Exactly what our dance leader says - you have to have a good man leader and it certainly helps. This person is not John who won't even look at a dance floor!
May 11th, 2016
@inthecloud5 Its so warm inside the ship, Christine that you don't mind being outside for 5 minutes!
May 11th, 2016
@beryl You have to be careful remarking on the people watching, Beryl - its easy to listen to everyone's conversation on board ship!
May 11th, 2016
@lubybee Our words, exactly Luretta! Wish it would never end!

@maggiemae Harry is a good dancer but seems to forget the steps these days a bit. We only get to dance on New Years Eve now & it's not enough but even then I can't see him learning Swing.
