from a different perspective. This Portland lighthouse was also taken from the sea on 15th June.
On a tour of Portland now and this was one of the stops. There are some magnificent mansions in Portland as well as other attractions.
Three good things;
1. I didn't swear when this page went blank and I had to type all of this in again
2. Our last day in the USA and we got through Customs carrying a bottle of maple syrup which we declared.
3. A great Italian meal - the chef made his own sausages, sliced up John's thick steak beautifully so he didn't need a sharp knife, the wine had 6 different grapes in it! Bulgheri Rosso from Italy.
Gorgeous! My first thought was, "Oh if only it had been sunny" but then the greens and reds wouldn't have stood out like they are! Excellent perspective and composition! FAV!
my lighthouse! or rather the Edward Hopper lighthouse. where are you off to after?
we watched "the world's fastest indian" last night. so interesting especially when you compare the movie from the historical facts. looking for the book now. :-)
@summerfield Off to Manchester England tonight, Vikki! Hope the rain stops! There is no book for 'The WFI but there is a book that the Director of this film, Roger Donaldson wrote together with John's help, called "Burt Munro, a Scrapbook of his life" John's photo is in the back.
Reading about the maple syrup reminded me that @judithg has recently been to Canada & her Canadian bank notes smelt of maple syrup! I was fascinated! They know how to paint light houses in Portland, perfect colours!
We welcome you to England, and wish the weather was brighter for you. Enjoy your time and we will feel you near us here in Gloucestershire as you travel close to our border.
How beautiful and I did photograph a lighthouse in Canada. I need to get myself organised to make space on my computer and then I can start uploading more photos!!
This is really gorgeous - looks like all the lighthouses in children's books. I expect Mr Grinling lives there - (from 'The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch')
Saw this on the PP and had to comment. Great shot of the lighthouse. Love the sky. I'm glad you enjoyed Portland and clearly enjoyed Cape Elizabeth! This is my town! I've photographed the lighthouse many times! I love when you get a different sky or feel. This is great! Off to see what else you captured on your trip to my neck of the woods!
One of my favorite spots! The area is beautiful. Sounds like you had a great trip. Enjoy your New England maple syrup. A year in New England and we can't eat anything else on our pancakes! LOL!
