Life goes on here in a nice routine unlike further north where they are marooned by earthquake damage but the hundreds of tourists are being evacuated by helicopter and the Navy!
These poppy plants were planted by nature - wind, birds and ?
In amongst the roses which are coming up to bloom, their strong stems tower over the roses. One little pod bends over……
Three good things:
1. I found via my camera manual that a little switch on the side of the camera actually meant I could focus much better close-up.
2. Got some jobs done before we leave for the big Burt Munro Challenge in Invercargill - with our caravan! So looking forward to this!
3. Got Christmas presents for those overseas wrapped up and ready to go!
Brian has just said that he read that Guy Martin was hoping to go to the Burt Munro challenge! First time you've taken the caravan down there. I hope the earthquake hasn't stopped people going? Amazing what you can learn off that manual! Sharp poppy bud compared with the soft petals of a poppy!
@maggiemae he's famous over here, I bought one of the lads his autobiography last year. Rather a crazy guy with longish hair, he talks fast but will throw himself into it big time I would think!
Must be nice to be looking forward to spring. That is one great things about this site in that we get two enjoy two springs a year thru folks like you. Thank you.
Aren't poppies fascinating? What looks like a prickly bud turns into a glamorous flower and, after that, a beautiful seed head. Love the detail here, and the colours.
@craftymeg It takes a while for the flower at this stage, Margaret. We will be gone by then - away for a few weeks going further south with our caravan and the Burt Munro Challenge etc.
