With and without by maggiemae

With and without

A big day here in our little property! A local contracting team arrived to cut down two rather large trees. you can see the before and after photos!

They cleaned everything up right to the last speck of dust!

Three good things;
1. I was able to offer hot drinks and huge peanut cookies for PM tea. They even did an extra tree!
2. There was more light as you can see but the view of the neighbouring house is a bit more obvious ! However we get on very well with her.
3. Started my new book - it now says 15 hours to the end! Good grief - might be next year that I find out what happened!
Lots if light! You will be feeling rather exposed but soon get used to it! Lots of wood for the Woodburner! Fifteen hours will soon go if it's a good book! Struggling a bit with mine, called A Dangerous Journey. Haven't reall got into it yet as I've been tired at night so not read much.

They did a great job... it almost looks like a different property!

Good comparison. BTW, What are you reading? I'm always curious and looking for suggestions.

It is great to document these differences. Now you have a space to fill.

@allie912 Kate Morton - "A Forgotten Garden'

What a difference , -it has opened out your property and made it look lighter !

@helenhall You are right - didn't have any spare space before. But I think there will be a lot of roots there!

What an unbelievable difference it made. How nice to have the two photos for comparison. It does look like an entirely different space with those trees gone. Cookies and hot drinks are always good for getting an extra tree cut too.

@happypat I read about 5 pages a day, Pat which would take just a few minutes off that 15 hours! Its always good to pick it up. The neighbours are very grateful

@grammyn Those trees were quite special - one a Leyland Cypress and the other, a Japanese Cedar - but neighbours are better as friends.

Great comparison shots and definitely much more light.

@maggiemae Loved it!

fabulous comparison and what a difference two trees make. when i'm reading a good book, everything is on hold till i finish it. or else i'd forget what had happened the last time i was reading. :-D

Removing the trees certainly opened up the space and added light...great comparison shots #1 Such a sweet gesture :)

It does seem a shame to destroy something that takes so long to become so beautiful. It must have been a difficult choice
September 15th, 2017
Wow, lots more space.....& light in to your home....
September 15th, 2017
Your landscape and your view are lovelier with the trees gone, really looks nice!
September 15th, 2017
really lets in a lot more light to the area
September 15th, 2017
@happysnaps It is now so bright, Valerie - we have to wear sunglasses - inside!
September 15th, 2017
We have just commissioned the removal of 9 large canary island date palms. Your photos are a good reminder that I had better take some before photos!!
September 15th, 2017
@dkbarnett There must have been a good reason to cut down palms! Are you sure you couldn't make palm oil from them?
September 15th, 2017
Great to have a record of the before. Always a thing I wish I had done.
September 15th, 2017
What a difference. Hope you have a wood burner fire to get rid of all that wood.
September 15th, 2017
@onewing Yes we do Babs but hubby says it will be a year before we can use it!
September 15th, 2017
VML the comparative shots. What are you going to do with all that space...and light?
September 15th, 2017
@s4sayer Plant stuff that likes space and light, Margo! There are a few kowhai growing we have found under all this foliage! Might encourage them and thence birds!
September 15th, 2017
@s4sayer ...and VML.... Vulnerable Movers List?
September 15th, 2017
Very Much Like and have coined another today, VME. Aka Very Much Enjoy ;-)
September 15th, 2017
Quite a change, it'll be interesting to see it again when everything has grown.
September 15th, 2017
@s4sayer You must have some younger members of the family to communicate with!
September 15th, 2017
Wow what a difference. Like the end result.
September 15th, 2017
Huge change and you are visible too to your neighbors.
September 15th, 2017
Awesome shots
September 15th, 2017
Nice comparison, loads more light for you
September 15th, 2017
Much more light in your garden now, and all those logs to burn this winter.
September 15th, 2017
That's quite a different view and you must be pleased to get the job done.
September 15th, 2017
Great comparison shots! Enjoy your new lighting in the backyard!
September 15th, 2017
@claudiet Its actually -next - winter Claude - they will have 6 months to dry out hopefully!
September 15th, 2017
@yaorenliu Yes, one can see over the hedge into our beautiful garden, the others have too high a fence!
September 15th, 2017
What a difference!
September 16th, 2017
Big difference but I always feel so sad when trees get cut down. Sometimes you have to though. Great idea to do before and after shots.
September 17th, 2017
@olivetreeann All the neighbours get a lot more sun now and they are so grateful!
