Using our GPS to work alongside this beautiful lake didn’t work…. I think its too old. We ended up going an inland route through beautiful farmland and back down to the main route. No camping spots so kept on and into the wonderful mountain territory of the Lindis Pass. Here the road runs down from over 900 metres to Omarama. We thought we could go to a Top 10 camping spot here but it was so expensive I got mad and threatened to disapprove them to the Caravan Association.
Three good things:
1. We went elsewhere - near the aerodrome where they love to do Gliding. Parked in amongst the trees and plugged in to electricity only to be told by a local that this spot was closed till the end of October! But he did say - yes, overnight…
2. Beautiful photo opportunities - white blossoms on one side and forest of bare trees on the other.
3. Parked halfway through the Lindis to get these wonderful hill photos!
I remember driving through similar country as this once with my mum in Ireland, Donegal to be exact. It made me very nervous, I was so frightened I would break down! Before mobile phones plus it was my first venture on a trip without Harry. He said he was too busy on the farm to go so I took the huff & took my mother! Anyway what I am trying to say no worries with you as you have your house with you!
@happypat Vehicles don't seem to break down these days though.. When I was growing up, we had an old 1937 chev and driving through this area the engine would overheat all the time! I just went walking for the time it took to cool down!
My Mum always talked about this area. I have a painting that she did of somewhere along the Lindis Pass. Love your photo. It reminds me a lot of the painting.
