Ardmore by maggiemae

Ardmore

Further north brought us to the coast near Auckland but the road was in a terrible state having half fallen into the sea! Navigable with red lights and people with stop and slow signs.
Three good things:
1 Investigation on camping sites round the coast was not successful but onwards was the shout!
2. Ended up at Ardmore Airfield south of Auckland where both John and I earned our Pilot’s Licences!
3. Got this late photo of a microlight or something against the sunset! I’m happy!
I had no idea you two had Pilot licenses! I am so impressed. I'm also impressed with this fabulous photo. it looks like something from the past. beautiful light against those clouds.

@grammyn When we were young, Katy! John just loved flying and I actually dreaded it - thought if I got my licence it would be better!

The airplane contrasts beautifully with the clouds. How wonderful for both you and John to have your pilot's licenses!

@dsp2 I'm pleased how clear it became - had to crop the original picture right down!

This looks likes something from an old film. Gorgeous light in the clouds and the plane is nicely silhouetted.

Up , up , and away in my beautiful machine -- great clear shot Maggie !

I had not heard of the problems north of Auckland...just the ones in the South Island. How sad. Love this photo

Wonderful shot.

You both have pilots licences, I am amazed! You two are dark horses! That's one thing if I was young I would love to do but it's expensive kearning to fly & keeping your hours up. Must be an amazing sensation being up there in the clouds! Wonderful photo, those magnificent men in their flying machines!

So you're a real high flier! Fab lighting in this shot

Cool, love that shot. Flying has always amazed me!

that's kinda cool you can fly a plane - that's what the pilot's license is for, right? :-D so did you try and fly a plane? i only know how to fly a kite but that was a long long time ago. how are you doing?
March 19th, 2018
@summerfield actually flew several planes, Vikki but got too expensive to keep it up. Doing fine - pains almost under control, thanks!
March 19th, 2018
@happypat john loved flying whereas I was scared out of my wits! Thought being a pilot might help......didn’t!

@dsp2 did have, Dinah

Great capture. I'm intrigued as to what this aircraft is its quite unusual looking. Maybe a WW1 replica?

@rjb71 Could be Richard! Too far away to identify properly! I had to crop the picture right down to even see this shape!
March 19th, 2018
Cool shot. Well, there is no end to the sense of adventure you and John have. You lead quite the life.

Clasic image of the WWI era. Perfect silhouette.

@tonydebont I was just lucky, Tony - couldn't see it properly with the naked eye.! But cropped you can see the big wheels and the wing struts!
March 20th, 2018
Congratulations! And what a lovely shot.

Very cool capture!!

I'm not surprised with the adventurous mum you had that you learned how to fly a plane! Your camera did a pretty good job with this distance. Nice shot.
March 20th, 2018
@olivetreeann I decided to learn to fly to see if it would cure my intense fear of flying in a small plane, Ann! It didn't!
March 20th, 2018
@maggiemae Sometimes I will force myself to make a climb thinking I'll be able to ignore the butterflies in my stomach- I don't! But at least we try!
March 20th, 2018
@olivetreeann One time flying with John at 6000 ft, I was so scared I told him I was going to jump out!
March 20th, 2018
@maggiemae lol not the best of ideas! I hope you just closed your eyes instead.
