King of the Fishers' by maggiemae

King of the Fishers'

My first and unexpected catch of a kingfisher. I was taking pictures of the water at Clark's Beach and noticed him sitting on the edge!

Three good things:
1. After a long day, first going to a dump of a camping site, getting turned around due to an 'accident' taking the shower key back to the dump camp, we found ourselves at this beautiful beach!
2. John used an excuse to get our money back ' my wife has 2 broken ribs and the smell of the nearby toilet dump site is making her cough"!
3. Staying here for two days!
what a pretty place...looks a promising spot for the kingfisher to be watching for a catch.

Such a wonderful photo. For some reason I thought if the Easter Idland stayed when I saw this. I love the whole scene and oh, that bird! I love your husband’s explanation of why you had to move. It was perfectly plausible!

Stunning scene. Such gorgeous colours.

@louannwarren PP - perfectly plausible! I think I would have also been sick if i smelt the toilet stuff! Which was only a few metres away!

@seattlite He did turn round when he saw me but I didn't go too close. Had to crop the original photo as it was too far away!

@maggiemae my goodness, spell check made my earlier comment sound weird. I meant to say I thought of the Easter Island statues when I saw your photo!

I had to laugh at the excuse, very true but they would be shocked! You can pick & chose as you have such lovely camp sites in NZ plenty of them too! This looks a beauty!

@louannwarren I thought that was what you meant. It does look a bit like those statues!

@happypat We can see the blue sea from our van, Pat and watch the boats go past and see the tide come in! Very peaceful except for the jets coming in to land at nearby Mangere!

I would be thrilled with this shot. I've only ever seen one once and it was gone in a flash.

How exciting to get your first kingfisher shot. I am excited if I just manage to catch a glimpse of one.

Fabulous place to stay - sounds like a wonderful improvement on the last place! Bonus seeing the beautiful kingfisher! That looks like perfect perch for him so I expect he will return. Fav!

spectacular color and light FAV just because it is a kingfisher and your first!

@tonydebont But he probably is...king of the birds when it comes to fishing from a height! What about the albatross, though!

What a great bird to photobomb your landscape! Glad you are away from the horrible campsite. Broken ribs plus unpleasant aroma......not much fun!!

Well that was a fortunate shot, and the bird being in a prominent position too. Good shot.

A nice welcome surprise, how lucky

Peaceful, tranquil - and a kingfisher. What luck!
The only good thing about having broken ribs is the option to use as a reason to depart the dump of a camping ground! I hope you are healing well.

Cool to see that little bird in context.
