I thought about our wonderful home and how happy we are living in it. A 1950’s brick home that we completely renovated right back to the skeleton of the building. It took a lot of planning and hope.
Here is the original lounge room on the inserted photo. Facing the other way from my photo of the lounge today. We took out the hall and made it part of the lounge.
Three good things:
1. You can’t see the big television screen here from where I took this photo but its a great addition.
2. Life is good from wake-up to sleep. We are not ‘lucky’ but just deserving of the hard work we put in.
3. Although there was beautiful rimu flooring here throughout the house, we wanted carpet and vinyl - mainly for reduction of sound. And softness underfoot!
An inviting space with comfortable seating :). My house is a brick home built in 1951. Full finished basement, garage attached, solid oak hardwoods throughout, lots of windows. I've lived in this house for about 26 years. I remodeled the kitchen, bath, added ceiling molding for character (floor molding is original). It's been a low-maintenance home which is good as one gets older. #2 Indeed...I've worked since age 14 and was employed at the Port of Seattle for 31 years until I retired 11 years ago.
@seattlite Houses built in that era are very well built and have stood the test of time. Sounds as if you have your home the way you want it too! At the beginning of our marriage we had cardboard boxes for tables!
Your home looks so comfortable and inviting! Thank you for sharing it with us. It would be lovely to sit there and spend an afternoon with you! A definite pay off for all your hard work.
I like the open floor plan...no need for a long hallway. Plenty of seating too. Glad you are happy and it fulfills your needs! I, too, think the older homes were built better. Enjoy!
I sat in that chair on the left & drank some of your whisky or was it Gin? I can vouch for your lovely house, I particulatly liked your kitchen & dining end. You will be at your cosiest now with the fire lit, your curtains drawn & I too love lights giving a glow all year round. You are right to say you deserve it, it takes lots of work & being careful with money to get where we are today!
