The Courthouse by maggiemae

The Courthouse

This is our local Courthouse - built 1883 -had to be modified for earthquake reasons. It has taken years to get to this stage where it will be open shortly! It was closed in 2011!
Three Good things:
1. Being proud of buildings like this in our local town.
2. Got my DNA results - 1/2 English, 1/3rd Scottish, Wales Ireland, 10% eastern european! And 2% Jewish! Is this all good?
3. My trigeminal neuralgia has come back with a vengeance after almost a year - codeine +paracetemol didn’t work. But at 5.30pm the pain stopped and hasn’t started again! Cross fingers, touch wood, anything!
A wonderful old building and image ,sorry to hear of your neuralgia hitting so hard though very miserable

@Dawn Thanks Dawn. I just need to 'up' my medication.

Beautiful building.....hope you're feeling better soon.

A lovely courthouse. It’s funny everyone I know who has had their dna done is 10% Eastern European! I do hope you feel better.

What a fabulous building!
Oh you have my sympathy with the neuralgia ..... it's awful! I have a mouthguard to wear if mine is playing up. (It's linked with my fibro they think)
January 14th, 2019
@willowdragon I don't have fibromyalgia but I have heard about the mouthguard. It must feel awful being inside your mouth! ...and I'm fine today!

Great capture of symmetry
January 14th, 2019
@maggiemae it can feel a bit strange but it does help. Glad you are fine now.
January 14th, 2019
Praying for you that it stays away!

Spectacular photo of your courthouse. I seem to remember you posting one of it a while back while it was under renovation. I specially like the light.
January 14th, 2019
What a fabulous building. Quite daunting if you have to be there as a criminal though I would imagine.

Hope your neuralgia has disappeared again, you don't want that back again I am sure.

Lovely sharp shot. Fave!

Beautiful old building. Glad the pain stopped
January 14th, 2019
A presidios looking building - and a lovely shot
January 14th, 2019
@onewing Its rather odd to see the type of people who have to be in court swilling around this beautiful building.
January 14th, 2019
@grammyn Well remembered, Katy. This courthouse is not open yet but it was supposed to be last November!
January 14th, 2019
@beryl It did have a gaol at the back - now just an empty shell but a historic building!
January 14th, 2019
A beautiful building. Fingers crossed you continue to feel well.
January 14th, 2019
Wet nice building !
January 14th, 2019
What a beautiful building and hopefully now earthquake safe! Hope you are still feeling better!

Bep
A beautiful sharp shot of this gorgeous courthouse.
Hope the pain won't start again. Touched wood for you :-)
January 14th, 2019
Sorry to hear about your neuralgia. Sounds excruciating! Hope it doesn't return. And the courthouse is beautiful!
January 15th, 2019
@joysfocus Thats the word I use for this problem - excruciating! Thanks for your thoughts!
January 15th, 2019
@gijsje Must have worked, Bep - haven't had a twinge today at all!
January 15th, 2019
@louannwarren "People of Eastern European descent trace their roots to Russia, Ukraine, Poland, and Hungary. The early Common Era saw the region largely populated by Slavic and Baltic tribes with later Roman, Mongol, and Ottoman invasions."
I don't know where I fit here!!
January 15th, 2019
It looks like a lovely building but it seems a long time to be closed!
January 15th, 2019
@inthecloud5 It was the earthquake strengthening that took so long start. At first the quote was in the millions then someone came in and quoted a lot less, everything had to go past meetings and red tape..... and so on. But it really is a beautiful building!
January 15th, 2019
Such a beautiful building...love those windows.
January 15th, 2019
Love the way you've processed this photo of that wonderful courthouse. So good to see buildings like this preserved in good nick. Your neuralgia, yikes, I'll keep all digits crossed it stays away.
January 15th, 2019
Hmmmm, I might know who did that work. A little company with an office in Christchurch perhaps? Lovely shot of the wonderful structure.
January 15th, 2019
A great capture of this beautiful building. Sorry to hear about your health issues.
January 15th, 2019
@golftragic Thank you Marnie - you can now walk, turn the pages with your digits as absolutely no problem today!
January 15th, 2019
@stray_shooter I really don't know, Ron - we haven't been made aware of who did this except for 'Breen" sign seen here on the left!
January 15th, 2019
@maggiemae Breen is probably the constructor. My old company specializes in earthquake investigation, repair and upgrading. After the 2011 earthquake we had several teams combing the area and the demand for services, engineering and advice was so strong that we opened an office there. We would have done the retrofit design, but not the construction. I always wanted to get an assignment there, but was stuck with other obligations. Too bad.
January 15th, 2019
@stray_shooter Didn't realise you had a stake in NZ's future - after the earthquake!
January 15th, 2019
Beautiful building, beautiful architecture. Fav. I am touching wood for your relief from pain.
January 15th, 2019
@maggiemae I know! Everyone else has been stunned by that development because they always thought they were of English, French, German lineage.
January 15th, 2019
A beautiful building and architecture and good DNA results, they are not so dilute as a lot of people!
January 15th, 2019
@maggiemae Whew! That's great.
January 15th, 2019
Lovely reflections.
January 15th, 2019
What a splendid looking courthouse.
January 16th, 2019
@helenhall Too good for its purpose, don't you think, Helen!
January 16th, 2019
@maggiemae well yes, I would be inclined to agree with you
January 16th, 2019
Lee
It's a grand looking building. Built to put the fear of its purpose in one I'd say.
Thank goodness for painkillers!
January 17th, 2019
It's a very majestic and beautiful building- I guess it's going to be spectacular after all those years of "fixing". Sounds like the DNA proved mostly what you already know- at least from your mother's side. And I do hope by the time you read this the neuralgia is at bay. Pain is not fun!
January 17th, 2019
@olivetreeann The English, Scottish, Irish and Welsh - yes, the Eastern European is interesting as is the Jewish! And thanks, the neuralgia is hopefully in control.
