This is our local Courthouse - built 1883 -had to be modified for earthquake reasons. It has taken years to get to this stage where it will be open shortly! It was closed in 2011!
Three Good things:
1. Being proud of buildings like this in our local town.
2. Got my DNA results - 1/2 English, 1/3rd Scottish, Wales Ireland, 10% eastern european! And 2% Jewish! Is this all good?
3. My trigeminal neuralgia has come back with a vengeance after almost a year - codeine +paracetemol didn’t work. But at 5.30pm the pain stopped and hasn’t started again! Cross fingers, touch wood, anything!
What a fabulous building!
Oh you have my sympathy with the neuralgia ..... it's awful! I have a mouthguard to wear if mine is playing up. (It's linked with my fibro they think)
@louannwarren "People of Eastern European descent trace their roots to Russia, Ukraine, Poland, and Hungary. The early Common Era saw the region largely populated by Slavic and Baltic tribes with later Roman, Mongol, and Ottoman invasions."
I don't know where I fit here!!
@inthecloud5 It was the earthquake strengthening that took so long start. At first the quote was in the millions then someone came in and quoted a lot less, everything had to go past meetings and red tape..... and so on. But it really is a beautiful building!
Love the way you've processed this photo of that wonderful courthouse. So good to see buildings like this preserved in good nick. Your neuralgia, yikes, I'll keep all digits crossed it stays away.
@maggiemae Breen is probably the constructor. My old company specializes in earthquake investigation, repair and upgrading. After the 2011 earthquake we had several teams combing the area and the demand for services, engineering and advice was so strong that we opened an office there. We would have done the retrofit design, but not the construction. I always wanted to get an assignment there, but was stuck with other obligations. Too bad.
It's a very majestic and beautiful building- I guess it's going to be spectacular after all those years of "fixing". Sounds like the DNA proved mostly what you already know- at least from your mother's side. And I do hope by the time you read this the neuralgia is at bay. Pain is not fun!
@olivetreeann The English, Scottish, Irish and Welsh - yes, the Eastern European is interesting as is the Jewish! And thanks, the neuralgia is hopefully in control.

Spectacular photo of your courthouse. I seem to remember you posting one of it a while back while it was under renovation. I specially like the light.
Hope your neuralgia has disappeared again, you don't want that back again I am sure.
Hope the pain won't start again. Touched wood for you :-)
I don't know where I fit here!!
Thank goodness for painkillers!
