Bowled! by maggiemae

Bowled!

A sweet little bowl I inherited from my world travelling sister. It is, of course, made in China. But a lovely design.
Thankful for
All our garden rubbish picked up by the men in a truck who thrust it all through a shredder. John had pruned the lavender bushes quite severely so the mulch will have a nice smell!
What are the points of light filtered through? Nice touch.

@allie912 The china itself seems to have these translucent spots!

How unusual and so pretty in the light.

@allie912 when my husband and I lived in China we saw this being made, there is rice in the clay that burns away in the kiln. Oops, just looked it up, and I must have misunderstood, because my Chinese was pretty rudimentary then. This explains the idea. http://gotheborg.com/glossary/ricegrain.shtml

@pandorasecho The transparent spots are indeed rice shaped but its not a hole where anything can go through!

Thanks for that web connection - exactly right. 'Rice Grain Porcelain'

Lovely shot and beautiful light. I have a whole dinner set ( asian style) of these with the "ricecorn" patterns. Mine were made in Japan and is a very delicate porcelain compared to the Chinese ones.

@ludwigsdiana I did think this one came from Japan, but never got to ask the question. You must treasure this!
