A mystery

This is a mystery flower that has arrived. The surrounding ferns were well cut back which may have allowed this plant to go forward!
If anyone knows what this flower is I will be forever grateful. I've googled and googled until I am now goggled!
Thankful for:
My iPhone which is so good at close-ups!
I know the little tiny one is a violet! The bigger one looks like it might be in the cyclamen family? Perhaps @julzmaioro will know. It's a cute flower.

@dide I know these little violets in the background but not this one flower! You might be right with cyclamen!

Beautiful shot. Lovely flower and dof. I have 2 cyclamen of the small species but the flower looks different than this.

It is so pretty. Had to smile at Dianne's comment @dide Everyone knows Julia is the expert on wildflowers.

@onewing yes - @julzmaioro is my garden adviser! Not that I’ve much garden...

Whatever it is it’s beautiful

So pretty. What a lovely surprise in the flower border.

How beautiful! Got to be in the lily family! I'll see if I can find anything out at my wild plant sites.

Gorgeous shot of this lovely flower.

I agree with @bep

Beautiful, I would have said Erythronium but not 100% sure.

It’s lovely!

So delicate and pretty -- I think @judithdeacon may be right

Looks like @gijsje could be right .. I would of guessed at a violet of some sort.. Its a very long way from home according to Beps link.. It's pretty.. strange how these things turn up..
August 28th, 2020
It is definitely a pretty little thing and you took a superb close up photo of it
August 28th, 2020
Looks like you are sorted....so many garden experts on 365...I’m sadly very lacking! I hope more flowers pop up...the light has obviously encouraged it to show its face!

Love the color !

I'll not join the ID debate, I will just admire the mystery flower,

I think that it is a fawn lily (dogs tooth violet.) I looked it up as my initial thought was cyclamen but the leaves did not match. Also known as erythronium.

Lovely shot

@gijsje @beryl @callymazoo Thank you ladies - I reckon you are spot on! Previously it was all hidden. I shall look for more now!
August 28th, 2020
@happypat I couldn't find it anywhere Pat and had no idea there was such a flower! I think I'll pick it and put it in a tiny vase!
August 28th, 2020
Lovely!

It looks a lot like the trout lily I find in the Michigan woods every spring, except mine are yellow. We also call it a dog's tooth violet or adder's tongue. Certainly odd - yet beautiful - to see a purple one!

P.S. The leaves are edible, but don't eat too many at once. You may vomit. ;)
August 29th, 2020
Gorgeous bloom!
August 29th, 2020
@juliedduncan Good grief, Julie! I'm not down to eating leaves in the garden. Give me crisp lettuce every day!
August 29th, 2020
Sorry MM, no idea. But I do like the photo.
August 29th, 2020
@golftragic - see Julie's comment above... @juliedduncan. Now both of us are the wiser!
August 29th, 2020
Julz @julzmaioro will likely know, she's a walking encyclopaedia of things floral.
August 29th, 2020
Oops, our posts crossed.
August 29th, 2020
@golftragic Posts are ok - when its the eyes that are crossed - then there is a problem!
August 29th, 2020
@maggiemae Nah, just top up your glass and you'll never notice.
August 29th, 2020
@golftragic Maybe I might see two glasses if I crossed my eyes! Now that would be creative!
August 29th, 2020
Wonderful close up!
August 29th, 2020
Beautiful color.
