I don't give a fig.. by maggiemae

I don't give a fig..

We all know this comment so well - except for perhaps our grandchildren!
The truth is:
The saying is based on the Spanish Fico (= Fig) which gave its name to a traditional gesture of contempt made by placing the thumb between the first and second fingers. ... The gesture was common in Shakespeare's time and was known as The Fig of Spain.
I never knew that!
Thankful for:
Dried figs transform so well soaked in liquid. Breakfast, snacks, salads, smoothies!
The things I learn here on 365! Nice photo :-)

I didn't know that either, so interesting. I had a caramelized fig yoghurt after my dinner this evening.

Well I never - I didn't know the meaning of the well known phrase - to me figs and Christmas come hand in hand !!

Yum - I love dried figs but wouldn’t cross the road for a fresh one! We have a fig ‘tree’ - one foot high and proudly sporting two leaves...

Great idea to show the outside along with the cut-open cross-section!

I know the saying but never would have guessed it came from Spain.
Well illustrated we have all learnt something! School puddings put me off figs but I believe they are fantastic warm off the tree.
