We have had three cherry trees for well over 10 years now, originally been given them in sacks. We have never had cherries as the birds get them every single year. Once we put netting one them and one single bird got in and ate the lot!

Wow, you have quite a crop of cherries there. We had a cherry tree in France and it was always a battle to get to the ripe cherries before the pigeons had them!
It is too bad that you cannot enjoy the cherries, but I do not know of any true way to prevent the birds from picking at them. Perhaps hang a few fake owls on the branches. That may deter them
@maggiemae I had never given it much thought really. When I looked it up the information said they are poisonous so I would imagine for the most part they do spit them out.
