Cormorants by maggiemae

Cormorants

Otherwise called shags but they have made a home in Oamaru's harbour on an abandoned wharf which has been shut off from people. It's quite famous. We were in the harbour restaurant enjoying the most delicious lunch - really high class and not that expensive. The sun was blazing in but we were fortunate enough to have a table with an open window. I was able to take lots of photos and this is one of them.
What a huge gathering of these birds ! Sounds as if you had a lovely afternoon and lunch ! Looking forward to more of your photos !

Do I know this place? Is your restaurant the one we went to when we were on penguins watch? It’s a fantastic photo….love all the shags taking over the wharf!

@happypat Yes, Pat - I have photos of you and two grandchildren here at this restaurant. It has changed hands since and is full of plants.

Beautiful crowd. It's good that they found their place on the old quay. When they inhabit an island I immediately make it a desert without plants and life.

I saw the photo first, thinking it was a crowded bridge, then the title and had a closer look.! 🥹
