Pardon me, by maggiemae

Pardon me,

But this is our food! A cheeky sparrow got up on the bird table and looked a bit nervous! Managed a couple of pecks of the honeyed bread then was completely overpowered by the silver eye family
This photo was an attempt at bird photos having read the blog on 365. The window was above the sink where I was doing dishes. These birds arrived and I was poised over the sink with my camera for about 10 minutes until I just about fell in!
I can just picture you doing this one, Maggiemae! We get so caught up in our focusing that we forget everything else. Love those two "silver eye" birds. Gorgeous!

@frida Commonly known as 'Ring Eye' or Silver Eye or Wax Eye. Native to NZ

got it, will have a look around for them with the girls later:) Thanks and have a nice afternoon!

I really love little wax eyes. You have inspired me to try to attract them back to the city. So honeyed bread is the trick? We now have tuis in our flax during Summer thanks to the Karori Wildlife Sanctuary. For a long time there were none.

Lyn
These are beautiful and I got such a grin out of envisioning you falling into the kitchen sink!

@carolinedreams That Karori Wildlife is such a good effort from all those people! The tui song is so pure and special!

They are tricky to catch through the kitchen sink window, I know!! I found that putting the rapid-fire setting on the shutter helps- but all I have is a little p & s.

What beautiful little birds, Maggiemae! I love their coloring!
June 12th, 2012
I think the sparrow is pretending he is not really there.

Those silver eyed birds are amazing. I've never seen such a species. Your commentary made me laugh. I can so picture it because I have done the same thing. I usually lean my camera on the coffee maker to steady it.

good catch. looks like he is posing
June 12th, 2012
@sarasdadandmom I think he's trying not to look at them!
June 12th, 2012
@olivetreeann I did that but not enough happened during that time. Birds!
June 12th, 2012
if they looked at me like that, I would fly away quickly :)
June 12th, 2012
@hjbenson haha, Harry - its that peculiar "I'll peck you" look!
June 12th, 2012
What a pretty little bird!

Nice capture of cool looking birds!
June 12th, 2012
Yes, very cool looking birds! Ours aren't nearly that interesting looking. Glad you didn't fall in the sink!
June 12th, 2012
Birds aren't easy, Maggiemae, as they move so fast. Makes me in awe of 365-ers who capture great bird shots but yours is great (and I love the narrative!)
June 12th, 2012
@lornareid Thanks Lorna! I upped the ISO but the f went up and the shot was grainy. So pulled thefstop down and hey ho!

@lonewolfman Thanks for thinking of me!
June 12th, 2012
That's a real fun shot now! Sometimes we can do anything for a shot! Very well done & be careful the next time :)
June 12th, 2012
Love the colours on the birds. They are so pretty.
June 12th, 2012
nice one!
June 12th, 2012
Beautiful birds for Sparrows, very colourful birds Maggie
June 12th, 2012
Love those little poppy eyed birds, I think they are staring the sparrow out! Great shot as it must have been through glass too. Talking about Tui birds our dog is named after them!
June 12th, 2012
Oh, I wish we had those little silver eyes here! Don't send us any sparrows, though -- we have plenty of them!
June 12th, 2012
Those are very neat looking birds! The sparrows we have here look nothing like that!
June 13th, 2012
Birds are so territorial. We have finches, who get chased off by the crows, who get chased off by the ravens, who get chased off by the hummingbirds. Great free entertainment when I can catch it.
