We were told - afterwards, the wind was 50 knots! Our boat set off down the coast and slugged onwards with these huge waves off our stern. The little boat swung and dipped, smashed into huge rolling waves and the wind whipped the tops of the waves in a white blur across our bow!
The good thing was we survived! The crew were all smiling and appearing confident but afterwards when we turned off into a quieter fjord, one gathered that this was an event!
An event!! I think it looks absolutely terrifying! I will watch out if I ever get to Milford Sound & won't even go on any boat in that weather! I suppose ifyou could call it exhilarating at best! Great photo & I think you arena hero in the cause of 365, how did John fare! Did you have the sick bag?
@maggiemae when you're commenting just click on the smiley face sign on the keyboard. You get a choice of faces & images. They aren't big enough though, much better when you FB message.
Oh my soul!! I can NOT believe you were out taking pictures in that. Have you lost your mnd?! It is a spectacular shot but have you forgotten about John's phone on much calmer seas? Glad you didn't lose your camera
Running into one of these is what makes me leary of going on boats. I have a fear of running into, "The Perfect Storm" or ending up on "Gilligan's Island" if you ever heard of that in New Zealand?
@maggiemae - There was a movie entitled, "The Perfect Storm" about a fishing captain, George Clooney, and his crew who are out to sea when a confluence of two powerful weather fronts and a hurricane merge and the boat is tossed around like a cork.
I think I would have died on this trip!!!! I've never seen the fjords like that! .....and you're leaning out to take a picture!????? Great shot though!
@janemartin Actually Jane, as I have said before, this was not my photo but I wanted to share my experience at this time. This was taken by a member of the crew (female) with a top camera and she 'did lean out"!!!
PS I haven't got a smiley face on my keyboard either!
