As my six grandchildren grow older (all girls) I made a decision two years ago. On their 18th birthdays, I will pass on to them a treasured piece of jewelry. I keep an open ear to see what they notice that I wear and on their 18th birthday I gift it to them. I thought, I’d rather give it to them personally than for them to get it after my death. Sooooo, our second oldest just turned 18 and I gave her an aquamarine pillow cut stone necklace with a sterling silver chain. When our granddaughter opened it, she was over the moon! Aquamarine is her birthstone.
What a joyful time and what a blessing to pass on to her something that holds a precious memory … looking back she will say, “On my 18th birthday, Bebe (my grandma name) gave me this necklace.” My heart is full of joy.
