The Knife Angel by Alfie Bradley by mandygravil

The Knife Angel by Alfie Bradley

We went to Hull on Sunday to take my niece to catch the train back home. The 'Knife Angel' has been in Queen's Gardens for a while now and this was the last day to see it.

It is made completely of knives handed in to try to stem the knife crime that is prevalant at the moment. Looking close up at it really made me quite emotional.

There is a photo of the sign explaining what it is and how it came about in my other album if you are interested. It was a very moving sculpture and extremely thought provoking. The expression on the face as the hand gestures are simply breathtaking.

It moved from Hull to Coventry where I think it is on who from next week. Well worth a visit.
A very expressive statue. Lovely collage.

Interesting, thought provoking sculpture, especially for those of us in the US. I think that people are making a big to-do here about gun control, and they are not looking at the actual problem, which IMHO is violence toward others, which can come with any weapon. This sculpture as point in fact.

@mave Thanks Mave - it was the expressions that really got me.
@fbailey It really was - just such a pity it was needed.
@chrisiow Thank you Chris.
@Dawn Thanks Dawn
@carole_sandford He was - it was quite a bit bigger than I expected
@seattlite Thank you Gloria
@samae Thank you so much. Close up it really made you think and the size of some of those knives - so many thoughts and imaginings
@olivetreeann Thanks Ann - He must be such a creative sculptor. I had never come across him before but I am going to see what else he has done.
@onewing It was even more amazing in the flesh
@kklinck I agree Kate. I can't imagine how many people who have been affected by knife crime across the world and how they deal with it. I am very lucky that I live in a small village with very little crime
@randystreat Absolutely Kathy - I couldn't agree more. We have had some bad gun crime too but in reality people who want to get illegal guns will always do so and here it is those who use them for sport (and win medals for us in the Olympics) who get little recognition but much of the bad press. I wish I had a magic wand.
@judyn Thanks Judy - it was great and quite moving to see.
