I brought this bodhran, or Irish frame drum, back with me from Ireland in 2006. It was a dream come true to travel to the land of my ancestors with my family. I vowed that I would play the drum someday, despite my lack of musical talent or even the ability to hold a simple beat. By the way, the tipper is peeking into the bottom left of the picture. If you're interested, you can see the whole instrument and hear a little bit about my experience with it here: Playing the bodhran, an Irish frame drum.

Thanks for your views and comments -- always much appreciated.
Great fun, I have a bodhran from when we used to live in Ireland. Such fun to play but my skill is nowhere near what you find in the local bars on a Friday night!

What a neat thing to have and I love the colors.

@casablanca How great that you can play! I love hearing Irish music. I really can't keep a beat no matter how hard I try :)

Great photo - I love the blend of clarity and blur. Fav.

We have one too, came from Ireland and my husband plays it - only for us when we have music on. He taught himself using Youtube. He has some old bones that he plays too. Although I play piano and drums when I was younger I have never mastered the bones. Ireland is beautiful - we toured it on the motorbike years ago and loved everything about it and would love to go back sometime. Off to Norther Ireland - Bushmills in a couple of weeks so will see how different it is .

@mandygravil Thanks for sharing the story about your husband's playing -- how cool to teach himself from videos! I would love to visit Northern Ireland someday. I loved Ireland so much, and of all the trips I have taken it is the place I would most like to return to. Thanks for checking out the blog.
