COMING FOR DINNER by markp

COMING FOR DINNER

I had been outside in the garden and I thought I had got todays shots. I was eating my dinner before getting ready to go to work. Then I got two texts within seconds of each other. If I had continued to finish my dinner I would have missed this.
Instead I got up to read my phone, as I did I looked up I spotted this out of the back window. Only had camera with macro lens on next to me. Crept out of the back room, into the front room picked up big camera and lens, with monopod attached. Rushed into kitchen to get a battery from the charger, crept back into the back room. He was still there, crept backwards to computer table, got SD card, inserted into camera, checked settings, and took a couple of shots.
Doh ! I had picked up wrong card, it was full. Crept backwards again, ejected SD card from the Mac and tried again.
This time, even though I was shooting through a dirty wet window, I am quite pleased with this.

It is a male Sparrowhawk feasting on a baby House Sparrow.

Loved the narrative! Glad I'm not the only one who isn't always at the ready. Sad for the baby, but that's nature. Beautiful bird.

Exactly the same sort of thing happens to me... except that the bird buggers off just before I finally get to click the shutter button ;-))
