DAZZLING FERRY by markp

DAZZLING FERRY

Leaving Liverpool's Pier Head, MV Snowdrop, one of Liverpool's famous Ferries Across the Mersey.

This technicolor design painted on MV Snowdrop was created by Sir Peter Blake, who is famous for that iconic Beatles Sergeant Peppers Album cover. It has been commissioned as part of Liverpool's First World War commemorations.

The eye catching dazzle design is in honour of the patterns that were first used on vessels in World War One. They worked by " baffling the eye" and making the ships difficult to target. Each ship's pattern used unique colour and monochrome designs- to avoid making classes of vessels recognisable to enemy U-boats and aircraft.
How wonderful! I thought maybe it was painted in a 60's style to celebrate the famous Gerry and the Pacemakers song :). It's a joyful sight.
