We had some nice rain Saturday and Sunday. God knows, we really needed it! I did venture out into it both days and took over 400 pics, of which I'm only happy with four shots. LOL! I experimented with aperture and focus in the dark gray light but, not too long. Didn't want to ruin my cheap camera entirely. Course the sun was shining its bright and beautiful way today but, I spent the afternoon chatting with my mother in her good company with a pot of coffee to keep us going. =)
This is a shot of my late blooming camellia, drenched and weighed down by the rain. Not quite as hot pink in color as my other camellia but, in the darker light with the rain, looks so.
MarlboroMaaaaaaaaam - Nice shot! Like the compostion, color, raindrops, excellent. Don't dismay.... Scott Kelby (Photographer/Author/Instructor) stated in one of his books that we/you should expect a shoot of 240 images to yield a couple or so that you consider worthy.
@sharritta Thank you, Sharon! Appreciate the comments and the view!
@ronphotos365 Wow! Now, coming from you sir, I take that as really high praise and because I consider you one the photographers here. Thank you so very, very much! =) I wonder if Scott Kelby got that from my professor back in my old college days or if my professor got that from him. John Frair, my professor, often said a very similar statement. It was good practice for me though, Ron! =)
Beautiful dof. The raindrops really add to the rainy day feeling. Lovely colors . . wet or not. Glad that you enjoyed the visit with Mom . . mine has passed away and I still reach for the phone to call her.
@maggiemae Thank you, ma'am! The dark background is just the leaf clutter all around and the dark gray cloudy skies afforded little light.
@karenann Thank you for those lovely and thoughtful comments, Karen. I know how you feel. I miss my father so much, it hurts badly. I miss his wisdom, counsel, love and even tough love at times. But we will meet again one day and I can take some comfort in that. =)
@sgoodin1 Thank you very much, Sara! Really appreciate your kind comments and the view.
@joeboxster I know. That's such a sad statement, too. Our entire lives are being reduced to 1's and 0's and I don't like it, either! Thank you for your kind comments, Joe! Always appreciated!
@purdey Ahh! Rain is so sweet when it's needed and you really do feel like celebrating! Thank you for your sweet and very thoughtful comments, Sharon! Really appreciated!
@jimwilson Jim, you are too sweet! Thank you but, I have a perfect record of never making it to the PP. Why ruin that? =) Making the PP is just not my goal, Jim but, I do rejoice when others I follow get there!
I want to know how you get such beautiful photos out of this camera. I know others with really nice cameras that do not touch what you shoot. My newest camera is basically the same as my one that has been flipping out slowly but surely. I know that the person behind the camera is the key so you are one awesome photographer.
@darsphotos Wow! Darlene, thank you! My photos have gotten better as I have gotten to know this little camera a little better. My shots are still lacking but, as long as I can see improvement - I'll be happy. The manual is required reading. LOL! I'm so used to my completely "manual" film camera. I don't have complete control over what this one will do, so it's very frustrating sometimes. Plus my peepers ain't so good and I'm sure I need new glasses, but that will have to wait. The best thing I can tell you is study your manual, learn to do one thing at a time and try to master it. Experiment! It's trial and error but, you learn so much from that. Once you learn what your camera will do and won't do... Google photography techniques and start by reviewing the basics and start to master each technique - one at time. That's what I've been doing since I started this project. I feel sure you can do that! Some of your shots have been really, really fantastic! Just keep on going. =)
Reading yours and so many other's comments I am amazed how one takes so many shots---100-500, etc! If I take 10, I get all stressed out trying to choose so I usually limit shots to less than 5. Guess I'll never be a true photographer in that sense ;-) Anyway, I congratulate you for your choice on this photo. It is spectacular in every way. Love how you caught the rain drops and the color is so gorgeous.
@cimes1 Carole, it's not hard to take that many. If I only took 5 shots per shoot, I'd be running in and out of the house all day long! So, I take my time, shoot from every angle and bracket my exposures. It all starts to add up fairly quickly and I move on to different subjects. Thank you for your kind comments. Appreciate them and the view!
Wonderful detail on this! Lovely pink colors and the drops are super cool :) Glad you got to chat with your mom! You're lucky to have her close- my mom lives in Wisconsin :(
@heidievans73 Heidi, I'm sorry. How often do you get to see her? There were many years I lived far away and only saw her maybe 3 or 4 times a year, but we talked every week on the phone which helped. Thank you for your kind and thoughtful comments. Really appreciate it!
@marlboromaam Oh it's ok Maggs...I see her maybe once a year. It's hard for her to travel and really hard for us to lug the children around. We do talk on the phone though..and we occasionally Skype- which is nice.
@marlboromaam I am sure you will make the PP for sooner than I and you are certainly much much more deserving. "It should be to those who don't strive, but do magnificent, that the prize should go." a quote from jim wilson
@jimwilson LOL! I appreciate that, Jim! But, it really is okay. It won't put any money in my empty pockets and I am not going to get tied up in the stress of it. I have enough stress in my life. =)
So you had rain this week as well. I love how rain can give new perspective on common things. Your photograph is so beautiful with the little drops weighing it down
I can't wait for the flowers around my place to start blooming. I love this hot pink color and the water drops. You done a GREAT job with this shot. I love it!!!
@melissapike Thank you very much, Melissa! I appreciate every single word you wrote, too! =) Yeah, my mom is a good ol' gal but, she can drive me right up the wall sometimes. Doesn't everyone's?
Pretty. Can't wait for the flowers to start blooming here. At one time in Louisiana we had a camellia bush and I loved to bring the flowers indoors and float them in a dish.
@jayberg Thank you very much! Really appreciate your kind comments and the view!
@faylin Thank you, ma'am! Your comments are very lovely and thoughtful! =)
