Okay, let's be totally honest about this shot. LOL! I think it's "craptastic!" I just love that word Sandra M (@msk1p2) uses to describe some of her shots, even though I've never seen her post anything crappy! This was shot from behind my glass doors. I tried to focus on the leaf and maybe get a little water crown but, no! It's a fuzzy focus at best and just a messy splash as the rain hit the deck. But, I'm going to keep trying when the opportunity arises again. =) Any suggestions how I can do this better, the next time it rains like a cow pissing on a flat rock, please let me know! Oh! Hope I didn't offend anyone with my description, but when it rains hard like this, I don't know any other way to put it. =)
even though it is blurry, you still captured the slash so that's a bonus in my book! better than i can achieve. LOL "craptastic" is one of my favorite expressions. i use it all too often to describe my bad days! ;)
It's not craptastic by any means. Great look with the leaves and the wood textures underneath. And you did get the splash . . what's the fascination with everyone wanting a "crown!" Dare to be different, I say. I sure as heck do. (dare to be different, that is!) :)
@karenann Now, I'm really happy to hear that "dare to be different" coming from you, gal! Well said! So next time, maybe I can get the splash in focus. =) Thank you for your thoughtful and kind comments. Really appreciate them!
I like the new word "craptastic" and it really does describe some of my photos. Mind if I use it? LOL Water drops are as hard to get as those cow's you mentioned... =)
I like it too. Love the ripples and the leaf in the water. I found with phtographing droplets and water crowns, just keep pressing that shutter button. I've only ever done it indoors, in the dark, that way the flash catches the movement. And yes, increase shutter speed a tad.
I too love the term craptastic....it rocks. I don't know any tips...never done a water crown or this type shot. I tried to shoot a fountain in the fall...fail! I am going to work on water shots this summer when I have time.
I agree with KarenAnn's comment. I wouldn't be able to offer any tips because I'm not into huge photo technology yet....and probably never will be. I actually like the photo---quite unique, I'd say. Craptastic....that's so funny!
LMAO! Craptastic is my favorite word, but I'm dying over the cow piss comment. Anyway, I would go for a faster shutter speed. I still haven't been able to capture a good splash.
I like it, too. You get a real sense of how much water was coming down because it looks quite deep, it hasn't had time to run away and the tones of the deck, the little lines and the leaves add further interest. Speed adjustment would probably get a 'fancier' water drop but this looks realistic. Definitely not crap!
I think it looks cool...I like how the leave is pined down... I can see the water splash that looks good too!..(sorry but I don't have any tips of the trade)
@purdey Sharon, I'll definitely see if I can get a clearer focus on the splash next time with a little more speed. Thank you for your very thoughtful and kind comments! Appreciate you, gal!
@joeboxster I did push up the shadows and highlights, no doubt. Wanted the splash to stand out a bit more. Good eye, Joe or did you see all that in the exif info? LOL! Thank ya, Joe!
Haha, it's not craptastic but it's not one of your better shots either. XD And I have no suggestions because I'm clueless and have never tried a water shot and probably never will because I'm a coward! 8D I know you'll get better because you'd never let something like this get you down, right? Nope, you don't give up, you're tough and candid and smart, and that's why I enjoy stopping by to see your photographs. I learn something every time, either from your shots or from your spunky attitude. You're always willing to try something, you have no fear, you are creative, and I really need to learn some of that. 8)
You just made me laugh so hard. Oh, my. Wish I knew how to help you. Actually though, this looks a bit like a splash and came out pretty good. I would open the door for one and maybe try that. Have you seen some of the splash in a glass photos on here? This is what you captured in one area and the leaf gave it a lot of character and brightness. I like it, Maggie.
@keyt427 Thank you, ma'am! Really appreciate those comments!
@joeboxster Thank you, Joe! Not so sure what you mean. On the camera or in Photoshop? The camera doesn't do "raw" unfortunately.
@darsphotos Always happy to get some laughs! LOL! And if I can't laugh at myself from time to time, something is really wrong with me! Thank you for your kind comments and suggestions, Darlene! Much appreciated!
@sangwann Thank you very much, Dione! Appreciate your comments!
@denisedaly It was raining very hard, Denise. I probably should say that instead. Thank you for your lovely comments.
@princesicita Aww! Thank you very much, Princess! I'm sure you'll do it when you're ready to try! Maybe some trial and error. Appreciate your comments!
I like it. I like the leaves, I like the grain of the wood, I like the splash. Next time, try with a really slow shutter speed and it will make the water rushing by look like it's floating steam!
Ha ha ha ha "A cow pissing on a flat " I thought I might pee my pants laughing at that one!! This is not craptastic! I think it looks really cool with those lines in the water and anything with falling leaves in it is good with me:)
@pammerritt LOL! Well? That is a good description of how hard it can rain. =) Thank you, Pam! Really appreciate your kind and thoughtful comments as always!
LOL! I'm just cracking up at your comments! Looks like you had some NASTY rain that day! I wouldn't say this is a craptastic shot at all, but I can see how it's not what you were going for. The challenge with capturing a rain crown is that rainy days are typically so dark, and you really need good light so you can use a fast shutter speed to capture a crown. I'm not familiar with your camera, but if you have the ability to change the ISO, try that. You'll get a noisier shot with higher ISO, but you might be able to get a fast enough shutter speed to freeze the water.
@melissapike Thank you for the suggestions, Melissa! Always appreciate your comments, too! You're right though, that's not the place to get a crown. But maybe I can get the splash more in focus the next time. =)
I still like the splashes and the leaves underneath the water. Very cool! I've never tried a water crown but all the above suggestions seem really helpful!
@litljen Aww! Thank you, Jennifer! It wasn't what I was trying to capture but, it is what it is. Appreciate your kind comments. =)
@fredia LOL! Sure! Not my word, Sandra's I think. =) LOL! Yep! Thank you, Fredia! Really appreciate your comments!
