On the side of the road -- drive-by shooting! by marlboromaam

On the side of the road -- drive-by shooting!

I know this is a TERRIBLE shot! It is kind of a fuzzy focus and I processed as good as I could get it... I was on my way home from grocery shopping yesterday and I saw this Black Vulture in the middle of the road dining on road kill. Had my camera with me and so, I thought I'd get a good pic through my windshield, if it didn't fly off... Well, it saw me coming! But, it hopped over to the side of the road. I rolled down the passenger side window, quickly zoomed as best as I could and snapped a few off. A car was coming up behind me so I had to move on... Made me think about a theme for a new series which is the whole title above. This will be fun and interesting! Care to join me?
Cool that you got to see him :)

This has a wonderful craziness about it., as if you truly are hunting the turkey, at least hat's what he thinks. Sometimes it's good to just take a shot because it's there right now. I'm with you.
May 14th, 2012
A moment in time .... and you captured it!! Great "drive by shot!"
May 14th, 2012
Love the title! Good theme but no accidents please!
May 14th, 2012
This is a good capture for all the pressure of driving off quickly!
May 14th, 2012
Great drive by shooting!
May 14th, 2012
Awesome drive by!
May 14th, 2012
Nice catch!
May 14th, 2012
Great drive by shot, Maggie. I have taken my share of drive by shots. Usually a blur and rarely get to pull over or slow down as there is always someone behind us. You got lucky to be able to pull over briefly. Nicely done.
May 14th, 2012
Lol, That's me to a T with birds, I get out and chase them. I have quietish road but they are usually in the spots where I can't pull over. Terrific attempt at capturing your buzzard

May 14th, 2012
Cool shot. But, please be careful ; ) Sounds like a fun theme.
May 14th, 2012
It is a bit blurry, but it adds to it ... you got some of him in focus, it's not as bad as you think. Lol @ the title, love it!
May 14th, 2012
Turned out real well. This is the kind of drive by shooting I like to see!
May 14th, 2012

This should be my Theme EVERYDAY!!...I fhink about 50% of my shots are totally Drivebye's!! I would love to see you do a series of these!! ( now what i mean is that i do the driving and see something out the window and either stop the car ..roll down the window..or jump out and risk death by a passer bye...now does that count???
May 14th, 2012
Oh i forgot the part where I slam on the Breaks...or just sit idleing in the middle of the road!!! :)

May 14th, 2012
@marlboromaam I see that others are doing a mirror series...did you start a theme or challenge?..I will have to go buy a Mirror if i do one up here ...I may have to wait untill i get back to Texas!! We dont even have a mirror in the R.V. (the closet doors are mirror's and the bathroom cabinet ..but they are permanently attached!! lol)
May 14th, 2012
@ellimae I did. I posted it here... http://365project.org/marlboromaam/challenges-and/2012-05-12
I also posted the link for it on 5 other shots, two of which you did comment on. I understand about your mirror situation. There will probably be more of these mirror challenges though. They are too much fun! I am looking for a smaller mirror myself for a future series.
May 14th, 2012
@marlboromaam sounds great! I am going to look and see if i can find a mirror i like...and then i will be ready for next time!
May 14th, 2012
Drive by's are a specialty with me ;-) Actually like the I fuzzy look around the turkey buzzard. Nicely done. This reminds me I still have an old photo in my photo library with a bunch of them lined up on a roof. May post that as a filler if I can find it one day. Thanks for all your comments on my photos....always appreciated!
May 14th, 2012

May 14th, 2012
Great drive by shot! I never seen a black turkey before... love the processing. Great idea for a theme Maggie :D
May 14th, 2012
ha! glad you were able to grab that shot!
May 14th, 2012
Great capture. Getting animals in nature is always a challenge. Very cool to catch that ol' bird.

I am in awe that you could get your photography self together fast enough while driving down the road. I'd join your challenge, except that I'm not able to drive-- though I do get a lot of photos while walking around town.
May 14th, 2012

May 14th, 2012
Great commando photography Maggie. There is an almost eerie scary quality to this scene and bird. I know they are important in the food chain, but there is something about them that gives me goose bumps.
May 14th, 2012
@jaboney LOL! "Commando photography" - love it! I agree, Mike! I think it's because they are birds of death and rot that they give people the creeps. They remind us of our own mortality. Appreciate your kind comments and visit, as always! Thank you!
May 14th, 2012
You are lucky you capture it! I've seen couple of pheasants and they run so fast, I didn't have time to lift camera.
May 14th, 2012
Wow! This is great shot!
May 14th, 2012
Vee
Nice catch! And BTW, by complete coincidence I will probably post a "drive-by" shot today!

May 15th, 2012
Great title! You did really well to capture it like you did. Don't you hate it when a car comes up behind you and you have to move on!!
May 15th, 2012
I hope I am not too late to do some drive bys.........this one is really great...I like how it turned out with the center so focused and the rest a bit blurred..
May 15th, 2012
@purdey Yes, I do! I want to wave them on around but, that usually doesn't work! I just really hate it when they start blowing their horn at me. LOL! Thank you, Sharon!

@vickisfotos LOL! The whole shot is pretty blurred. I tried to add more blur around the bird to make him look a little more in focus. Thank you for your kind comments, Vicki!
May 15th, 2012
