A few of my reference books... by marlboromaam

A few of my reference books...

A medical doctor has lost all of my respect as soon as I'm done telling him my symptoms and he/she pulls out a prescription pad - without even examining me! Modern medicine's answer for everything seems to be drugs. I don't mind an antibiotic once in a while, but drugs have very bad side effects on me and prompt the doctor to prescribe a drug for my side effects - so the vicious cycle begins... No thanks! Been there and done that. I try to eat right and I take good vitamins and herbs (I learned the hard way that NOT all vitamins are created equally with potency). I haven't been able to get physical because of my back and knee pain, but as soon as that's fixed - I'm walking! Yes, indeed.

BTW, my favorite of all of these is second from the top. With its yellowed and well-worn pages, I carried it on many a hike to help me identify herbs and wildflowers in state parks. It is over 40 years old. =)

I like your attitude. I feel (humbly of course) that its ultimately our responsibility to know how we 'work' and what works for us. I have a great deal of respect for the medical profession but its my body and I am the last say.

The thing that kills me about the side effects of drugs is that often a side effect is the same thing you are trying to get rid of… looks like you have studied up… so glad you are walking again.

Ancient cleansing formulas looks interesting!
July 28th, 2021
@joysabin I have loads of respect for some doctors. The ones that listen and suggest something other than a prescription after they've examined me, command the most from me. =)

@kvphoto LOL! Studied up just enough to be dangerous. Not walking yet - waiting for all these injections to be done first. Can't wait though!

@wakelys The best cleanse in that book is drinking 64 ounces of pure water every day. =)

We used to have a shop which sold lots of herbs and oils and lots of the books like yours.......we were very popular !
July 28th, 2021
@cutekitty That's interesting, Kitty! I hold to natural medicine and healing. It's how most doctors used to practice medicine in the USA 30 years ago. Not anymore, sadly.
July 28th, 2021
I love seeing a book that has been well used and well loved! It's so important to know your own body and be your own advocate.
July 28th, 2021
Definitely a theme here!
July 28th, 2021
@ljmanning Thank you, Laura! Yes, it is important.

@taffy LOL! Yes, it is. =)
July 28th, 2021
I like it! We brought our kids up on homeopathic medicines
July 28th, 2021
@365jgh That's great! If they are all healthy and well - you did the right thing. =)
July 28th, 2021
yes, drugs are the american answer to everything!
July 28th, 2021
An alt med lady! I should have guessed.
July 28th, 2021
@blueberry1222 Sadly true!

@milestonevisualmedia Not completely!
July 28th, 2021
Great collection - I have a great book just for essential oils
July 28th, 2021
@samae Thanks, Sarah! I have a bookcase full of books like these. These are just a few of my favorites.
July 28th, 2021
that's a lot of reading and reference data maggie
July 28th, 2021
Modern medicine and the push to get you out of the office fast....sad....Hope you are feeling better.
July 29th, 2021
@phil_howcroft It's just a little bit. LOL!

@dutchothotmailcom Thank you, Esther! I'll be fine.
July 29th, 2021
You're right. We had a positive experience with our old-school pediatrician 30+ years ago. In this instance, he did *not* turn immediately to the Rx pad, but thought and solved the problem with his hands on the spot. EMRs are a double-edged sword that further encourage doctors to hustle us out to get the next patient in…

So many ways to health without drugs! Great image.
July 29th, 2021
Great capture
July 29th, 2021
That's the way they are. I had an aliment last year, and the doctors I saw were totally useless. You've got the right idea, healthy lifestyle is the best way.
July 29th, 2021
Oh... I had the exact opposite experience. I've been doing some analyses every 6 months for almost 2 years now, and on the last one, the doctor said: let's do one more in 6 months' time. And I asked: Isn't there anything at all in the meantime to try, maybe the results will improve. Not that I am keen on taking medicine, but if you keep doing analyses and hope to get something fixed, you must take an action. A sample taken every six months does not fix anything. And the body, by itself, at a certain age, ceases to heal by itself.
My overall feeling is that doctors no longer know what health is about. They are overwhelmed. Unfortunately, i haven't met a doctor to impress me, lately. Well, luckily, I haven;t met many doctors lately. But I mean with all this shit we are currently going through, it is quite clear (to me) that health issues are beyond human control or knowledge. I really don't wish to offend anyone. But with all the studies and reports that contradict each other and all... it's no wonder

Take care and get well in no time!
July 29th, 2021
Very interesting. Christine doesn't like any medicine of all sorts and and it takes a big effort to convince her. But she always cooks healthy food with lots of veggies.
July 29th, 2021
@rhoing It's sad these days and if you're on Medicare, it's hard to find a right doctor for the problem.

@kwind Thank you!

@bkbinthecity Thanks, BKB!

@monikozi I don't know what kind of analyses you're going through. I wasn't talking about serious illness like cancer here. Mainly general practitioners who have become professional drug pushers. My last GP actually got angry with me, because I refused to take a drug he was pushing on me. It would not have fixed my health issues and only caused more problems. (sigh) I love my cardiologist, my periodontist, my neurologist, and most of all my chiropractor. They have done more to help me with my health issues than any other doctor I've seen and without drugs.
July 29th, 2021
That is good to hear that you got the proper care. But yes, i do know what you mean.
July 29th, 2021
@sangwann Christine is a good woman, Dione. Sometimes, an antibiotic is necessary and maybe sometimes an aspirin. I'm not so sure all these synthetic drugs are the answer.
July 29th, 2021
@ryan161 Thank you, Ryan! Stay well and healthy!
July 29th, 2021
@monikozi Wishing you health and wellness! =)
July 29th, 2021
Glad you have found some relief through natural remedies.
July 29th, 2021
@k9photo All in the past, Kate. LOL! Not much I can do naturally for my back and knees. I wore them out and down with my previous job at one of the big warehouse stores everyone orders from.
July 29th, 2021
Good list of books (I also have a lot of books) - I also prescribe to your way of thinking and have practiced a "Fit for life" way of living since my early 20s. For knee and back pains - if it's inflammation (which is the root cause of many issues - have you tried turmeric curcumin capsules? I take the Jamieson Ultra Strength Curcumin Turmeric 9,000 mg Capsules and it works wonders :)
July 29th, 2021
Lovely shot and a nice array of helpful books.
July 29th, 2021
I love this collection of books :)
July 29th, 2021
A great collection of books, I learnt over 30 years ago there was more to health than drugs. I worked as a receptionist in a therapy centre which took me on to study and work for over 20 years as a clinical Aromatherapist and performed thousands of massages before I retired in 2014. It was good to know I helped so many people in those years.
July 29th, 2021
@pdulis My knees are bone on bone. My back is solid white on the x-rays. I wore them out working for the big warehouse store everyone orders from. I take all kinds of supplements, Peter. Thank you!

@mittens Thanks, Marilyn.

@kgolab Thank you!

@craftymeg Interesting info. I get a deep tissue massage once a month. My therapist works the gravel out of my back and shoulders. Today was her last day. I will miss her! It has helped a bunch.

@marlboromaam Yesterday I signed up for MAPD and I'm officially on Medicare starting Sunday. I *think* I understand how this is going to work for me as a state pensioner/annuitant, but I won't know for sure until the first bills and EOBs come. :-\
July 29th, 2021
@rhoing I have a BCBS med advantage plan. It costs me $15 more per month in addition to the standard deduction from my SS check. It's not a bad plan. It's just that it's so hard to find a proper doctor when you get on medicare, if you don't already have one. I need a new GP and a gynecologist. My old gynecologist retired and the GP I saw is just a professional drug pusher. Won't see him again!
July 29th, 2021
I think like you ! The more I’m getting old the more I think eating well and practicing sport is very important and I’m getting more and more interesting in soft medecine ..
July 29th, 2021
@cocobella Stay well and healthy! My poor body has had some abuse and it's not what it should be, but I'll work on it. =)
July 29th, 2021
@cocobella @marlboromaam My wake-up call was an emergency appendectomy at age 44½. Walking around septic for a few days, 5 days in the hospital, and then a few weeks recovering from surgery, I lost 30ish pounds in a matter of a few weeks. I liked how I felt and how clothes fit better. Thus began the commitment to be a regular at the gym. Now there are a rowing shell and an indoor rowing machine in the garage. :)
July 30th, 2021
@rhoing You're doing great, Thom! I'm sure Claire is too. Yes?
July 30th, 2021
Great collection. I love them.
July 30th, 2021
@framelight_byasli Thank you, Asli!
July 30th, 2021
@marlboromaam Actually, Clare seems to have hit a whack-a-mole wall: back-and-neck/pinched nerve, and this week rotator cuff. Right after getting off all the drugs. More PT coming. :-\
Yesterday I picked up my first Rx under Part B. My ID card hasn't come yet, so it was a phone call to get the four bits of info: BIN, GRP, ID, and PCN… But the out-of-pocket went from $89 to $15, so it was time well-spent.
We are definitely in a new/different stage of life—

@rhoing Getting old is not for sissies. With my 2nd gel injection in my right knee, it's beginning to feel like it's 45 again. Get my 3rd on Monday. Week after that, the neurologist will start on my left knee. Then back to my back pain for another shot or something else. I've lived with back pain and knee pain for so long from my last job, I don't know that it will ever go away completely.
August 7th, 2021
@rhoing All these books and natural healing techniques don't help too much when your body has been abused. 10 to 12 hours per day on concrete walking 12 to 15 miles per day at two steps per second to make rate with a push, push, push yourself at the big warehouse store everyone orders from - is abuse. My spine is compressed from it and my knees are bone on bone from it. It happened over a period of time so there's no recourse to prove one accident made it happen for worker's comp.
