Buckeye... by marlboromaam

Buckeye...

The only butterfly that would stay still long enough for me to shoot. Thom Mitchell @rhoing shot May 29 this year.

Beautiful. They are so striking from above as you shot this one and I feel badly that their common name is “Common” Buckeye. They are “temporary colonists” at my latitude: most years I see them but some years they didn’t get this far north.

@rhoing Thanks, Thom! I couldn't get closer - it kept flitting off! I tried to shoot a dusty dark green one a couple of days ago, but it would not be still long enough. Some kind of skipper maybe? I just saw it's body which was green. Didn't see the wings other than they were dark.

@marlboromaam Green body? Hmm. Don't know off-hand—
You have an ace membership. Post a “throw-away photo” (one you could delete) however poor an image. I'd be happy to do my best. :)
