Quadricycle, 1887. A steam engine made by De Dion, Bouton et Trépardoux (yes, this is the company name – luckily there were only three of them).
A trip with this steam car does require some preparation; it takes 50 minutes to get the boiler up to steam. But then the car can be operated by 1 person and it travels 60 km/h.
After 1889 De Dion and Bouton switch to petrol engines. More confident in steam, Trépardoux leaves in 1893.
De Stanley Steamer was toen sneller en betrouwbaarder dan de benzine motoren die aangeslingerd moesten worden met alle risico`s van dien. De electrische startmotor heeft het pleit geveld.
