Orange You Glad? by mbrutus

Orange You Glad?

Went for a walk today in the late morning, despite the temperatures rapidly approaching 100 degrees Faherenheit. With so much heat and the sun reaching its highest harshest point, as well, I thought it unlikely that I would take any photos on my walk. But I decided to carry my trusty omni-present point'n' shoot. And when I saw this guy fluttering around at the very beginning of my walk, I luckily managed to remember my trusty point'n'shoot. I quickly unzipped its case, grabbed the camera, turned it on, checked the settings and grabbed this shot, maybe three seconds later. Not wanting to take the extra time to move in closer, or risk scaring off the butterfly, I may zoomed in slightly but decided against going for a macro shot. This was the happy result. Unfortunately, the hummingbird that I actually spotted first, sampling the same orange lantana bush, was not quite as accommodating. Once I turned my eyes away to reach for my camera, I could never find him again. Presumably, he had darted off unseen towards a distant bush. Still, the experience had me asking myself, "Orange you glad you brought your point and shoot along on your hike this morning. My Big Boy Camera might have taken a better detailed picture in a larger file. But like Poppo Livy always seems to forget that he likes to say, "The best camera is always the one that you have with you." And who am I to argue with Poppo Livy?
Beautiful butterfly and super capture! Your focus and bokeh are lovely. This butterfly reminded me of the ones I see when visiting folks in the South East United States. If you're friends with Poppo Livy, I'm guessing you're from the Southern Hemisphere as well? Beautiful Fave.

I wouldn't argue with Poppo, especially when you get a great shot like this with the camera you had on hand. Wonderful butterfly capture.

Lovely capture. So far every butterfly I have come across hasn't been so accommodating. I think they and the bees have been talking, but I shall persevere 🙂

That is definitely why you don't leave the house without a camera - any camera - I'm thinking of taking my usual walking camera and hiding my 50mm along the way - want to try Richard's 50mm challenge in September but that's pretty limiting on my walk- pick it up on the return. Love his color here. Really nice softness to this.
