Bugs Me by mbrutus

Bugs Me

I took this shot a month ago and never posted it. And now, it bugs me. Oh, I had my reasons. But still, it bugs me. With a little less luck, I might have overlooked this photo in perpetuity. So now, I am forced to examine just how such an oversight could have transpired.

I took this bug shot on the same day as The Eclipse, about ninety minutes afterwards. So, of course, I had to post my “Eclipse Shot” that day. I took this shot while on a photo hike with my bro-in-law, @Rcomfy, and was feeling pretty warm and fuzzy toward @Rcomfy, in that moment in time, for all his kindness, hospitality and such. So, if memory serves, I posted his photo the day after.

Therein, lied my next snag. I strive to maintain the diversity of my entries. With no disrespect to my flower or bird or cat or koala or rugrat or landscape specializing friends, the variety of my subject matter has always been a source of pride for yours truly. So, how could I then post a photo of this handsome bug, no matter how magnificent he might be (for a bug), so soon after posting a photo of my brother-in-law, whom he so closely resembles. Facially, in particular. Couldn’t bring myself to do it. After all, we are defined by our principles. Are we not?

So, that next day, I went with a macro shot of bees buzzing around a cactus flower, followed on subsequent days by a series of Osprey shots, assorted macro, still life, flower, nature, and moon shots. Till, lo and behold, I had totally omitted this handsome bugshot. Which strikes me as a shame, because I remember how difficult it seemed to find a suitable subject, how lucky I felt to spot this bug ,and how difficult the circumstances were to get him in shot and in focus with a strong wind blowing. Unfortunately, I had recently posted another shot of @Rcomfy just a few days ago. But then it hit me. Perhaps, I could bend my principles just a tad, inasmuch as, my beloved brother-in-law’s face was not visible in that particular photo. How do you spell “relief”? Maybe I could finally share this bug shot, now.

So if you are reading these ramblings, chances are that I did. And I’m glad. Because as Poppo Livy (will almost assuredly try to deny that he) always likes to say, “A beautiful bug shot is a terrible thing to waste.”
An excellent macro capture. A nice looking bug with a red upside down heart on its back. Just glad you are near it instead of me. :)

Wonderful detail in this beautiful (m)bug shot. Seems to be looking at you with an imploring look "Please post my photo on 365 so everyone can see how handsome I am." Glad you did as yes, it would have been a shame to waste this beautiful capture. Fav.

Here's looking at you. I wonder what that bug is thinking? I'm guessing he's wondering why it took so long to become famous. He's very photogenic.

@gardenfolk Glad you like the photo. Bugs or bees on flowers are the best. They are never interested in us. They are much too busy with their business.

@littleconnie Thank you. You are obviously The Bug Whisperer because you can tell when they are saying just from looking at them. What a cool gift.

@Dawn Many thanks for sharing your comment.

@danette I don't love bugs, either. But we all have to shoot something. There's not that much else to shoot here in the burbs. Birds, bugs, and flowers. Mostly.

@delhawk Well, Vince. We couldn't blame him if that's what he was thinking. A handsome guy like that, living out here so close to Hollywood.

Well if tag lines mean anything, I'm shocked you didn't post a shot of the naked sun worshippers instead of Bugeroo here! Smile. This is a fabulous macro and I too like that little heart on his back. Fav!
