Community House

From a description found online:
"Constructed in 1917, the Community House served as a place of refuge for soldiers during World Wars I and II and has since evolved into a recreation center for the citizens of Manhattan."

I have a lot of semtimental attachment to this building from my childhood in the 50's and 60's. I took part in a creative dramatics group that met on Saturday. The first play we put on was "Little Women." I was Beth. We wrote the script, rehearsed, and performed it. Later we did "The Princess and the Pea" and toured it around to several schools or summer recreation sites where we performed for the kids. Later I worked for the summer recreation program coordinated from this building. One year I went around to all the sites with my guitar and sang with the kids. Ah, memories!

This building does have a sort of "hidden beauty" look to it. It seems boring at first glance, but has a deep sense of history to it.

Its solid and stolid nature come through really well in this image!
