Public Garden - Location Unknown

This is an attempt to produce an image in the style of the artist, Mari Mahr (Everytime I say that to myself, I think of an old Mexican telenovela called "Marimar") for the current artist challenge. I've constructed my image using an old photo that I found and bought in a thrift store. I was intrigued by the fact that someone had liked this snap well enough to have at least four copies printed. So I bought the three, along with another photo that features a double-exposure from someone's trip to Washington, DC in the late 20s or early 30's I'm guessing. I may use that one in another image. Not sure if I will have the time as the challenge ends tomorrow. There were others from that trip, but I didn't want to spend the money to buy more.

The box is a drawer from an old sewing machine. I don't have the sewing machine. All I have is this one drawer. The crepe paper poppy is one of the kind that is given for a donation on Memorial day, and the Swiss cross laid out in the flower bed, so associated with the Red Cross brought to mind its wartime role. This snapshot I'm guessing was taken sometime between the two World Wars, though I don't know that for a fact.

The location is a public garden somewhere. In the background, behind the bushes, you can just see the top of a glass conservatory sticking up. If anyone has any clue where this was (a long shot but, hey, I've seen stranger coincidences) I would love to know. I'm posting a scan of just the old photo in my Alternates album.
