Without a telephone, they were stuck. by mcsiegle

Without a telephone, they were stuck.

They had only planned to transport through space (not outer space, just regular space). Hadn't figured out how to fine tune where they'd land, but a smashing success, nevertheless! Peering through the window at the end of the hallway, this was nowhere they recognized. It was amazing that they had managed to do what was only fiction on TV. And it was still the middle of the twentieth century, NOT Stardate 3113.2 and counting.

Rats! It was after hours and the building was locked up tight. They'd have to wait until morning to find out where they were. In the meantime, they wanted to call "base camp" (John and Steve in Bob's basement) ASAP with the news that it worked. It WORKED, for Christ sake!

A phone...they needed a phone. They tried all the office doors along that boring sterile hallway. All locked. Damn! It was going to be a long night. Then, turning the corner, they spotted a pay phone station on the wall at the far end. Abandoning any fear of being discovered by a night watchman, and throwing caution to the wind, they ran towards it, with a dime ready. But as they drew nearer, it became disappointingly clear there was no telephone on the wall.

They had NOT intended to travel through time -- did not at first realize they had. Why had the phone been removed? Why was the blue plastic directory cover empty?

There would be many more questions in the days that followed...why and where and when and how, and what the hell were they to do? But this first night it was only this: without a phone, they were stuck.
So… I want to know did the story come first or the photo? Either way a fabulous combination.
